Not necessarily. Generally speaking, a PCM update could cause a change like this.

Mine hasn't been to the dealer since 1800 miles so it has had any flashes between then and when it started at around 8500 miles.

I am 99% sure this is the PCM. Mine does it with the stock tune but did not with the Diablo tune.

my truck is three weeks old quad 4x4 with the 4.7 has dropped down to 500 r.p.m. since day one. after i first stop it sits at about 600 for a couple seconds then drops to 500, but it does not feel like it wants to stall. i think thats how it was designed

Mine too. Bought mine last April. It now has 17K miles and still does it, but like you said, doesn't feel like it wants to stall.

Mine also does this. It doesn't feel like its about to stall but it is annoying. I was once trying to inch up close to the garage door and it almost caught me off guard when it decided to jump back up in RPM's and surged forward.

Same here, except my refrigerator instead. I will agree that it is annoying indeed.

Mine does the same thing. It sits at 500rpm but doesn't feel like it is going to stall.
