Thumbs down REN - Display out

Just rolled 1,000 miles and today my display is out on the REN. WTF???
I tried turing off the system, restarting the truck and nothing. The stereo still works as does the touch screen, but the display is black. Anyone else had this problem? I am not that excited about these dealer techs taking apart my dash. They are sure to jack something up, not to mention all my hard work loading CDs onto the hard drive.

Mine did something similar once, it was during a time were I was loading music and a cd was playing when I stopped the truck, may not have had anything to do with it, next time I drove it just a black hole in dash ( it was at night, lol) I was adviced on this board to unhook battery a few seconds and hook it back up, that fixed it! been about a year ago ,never did it again

I had a similar issue when I selected daytime mode while I was goofing around one day and for some reason it wants to be set from the factory at the very lowest brightness level. Had to look real hard to figure out how to get the brightness even turned up enough to read the screens. I only figured it out when a cloud went overhead and it got just dark enough to be able to see the buttons on the screen.

I will try the battery trick. I heard that the fuse should be pulled before disconnecting the batter though. I was listening to music on the hard drive when I got home last night. This morning, I startup the truck and the screen was dead all the way to work (1/2 hour drive). I knew I had reason to be concerned with this seemingly fragile computer in the dash. Are these things pretty reliable for the most part?

Any LCD backlight can burn out, they will just replace the radio if its dead.

I read something about the spike when you disconnect the battery on RER/RENs damaging the radio so best to pull the fuse if you want to try it.

The RER in my Jeep it has stayed blank for 5 minutes a few times when it was cold out but still played fine so I expect it to crap out completely one day.

Well Dodge went from whomever built the radios for 09 model then 10 switched to Mitsubishi, then for 2011 or 12 not sure but Panasonic because of costs. So somebody should come out with a nice oem looking radio that fits nice and actually plugs in and works thru the CANBUS without having to have the dealer even go near it.

There is a way to load the songs from your harddrive to a usb memory stick in the event the radio needs to be replaced

Default Update

Later that day, when I left work the screen worked fine. Weird....
The display was out for the entire ride to work, which is around 30 minutes. Anyway, I figured I would update everyone. Thanks for the info.

Actually NEVER pull your battery cables without first pulling the fuse for the radio. See the FAQ section about recalls and RRTs. That can hurt the radio.
