Well, it's comforting to know at least that I'm not crazy, and that something really is wrong. Well, other than the Christmas tree on my dash from the ESP/BAS problem they caused during the install as well. I just know that when I take it to them, they're going to automatically say that all after market gears whine, and that's normal. Of course they'll say that without even looking at the truck or taking it for a drive. Once they do hear how bad it is, I'm sure they'll start trying to blame me and that I didn't break it in properly, even though I followed their directions to a T. The only thing they didn't tell me about that I found out later (after it was too late) that you're not suppose to go over 60 MPH for the first 500 miles. Without knowing that, I was routinely doing 70 on the highway parts of my commute.

I'm overly pessimistic on the situation based on my complaints with them on the ESP/BAS problem. They swear that the only way to fix the problem is a chip flash with a Superchips or similar tuner. Of course they also thought the gear install was going to throw the speedo off by 10MPH or more, which it didn't. I tried explaining even before the ESP problem after the install about the wheel sensors and how that they had nothing to do with the gear ratio in the rear end on the 4th Gens. They still swore up and down that the speedo was going to be messed up unless I bought their $500 Superchips tuner. When the speedo wasn't jacked up after the install they quickly shut up about it, but as soon as I mentioned the ESP light, they were back on selling me that Superchips tuner and swearing that the computer needs flashing. So, I had them look the tuner up on Superchips site. Even there it says that gear ratio changes are not applicable to the 4th Gens, but they still didn't believe me. Finally after I told them that I had talked with a Dodge dealership and emailed Superchips, both of which confirmed that the gears have nothing to do with the speedo or the ESP, the 4 Wheel Parts guys said that well they'd probably need to contact a Dodge Engineer to come up with some kind of custom solution. At that point I just dropped the whole ESP conversation and figured I'd just bite the bullet and get the local Dodge dealership to fix the problem for me.

Of course I can't, and shouldn't get Dodge to fix this whine problem. I mean I did pay over $1,300 for everything and a warranty for nothing. So, I'm going to go by 4 Wheel during lunch tomorrow to talk with them again, and get them prepped for my appointment on Thursday. Hopefully it'll go smooth and they'll be able to get it fixed. It's just that everything with them has been so tough so far, I'm expecting a huge fight over getting this resolved.

those gears are shot. they owe you brand new gears out of the box, a new install, and a fix for your lights ..

If you don't get exactly that, i would sue them in smal claims court .. any professional who has installed a gear swap before will gladly stand up in front of the judge on your behalf and tell the judge that ....

1. the gears are toast .. no saving them at this point
2. the job wasn't done right from the begining.
3. you need brand new gears installed properly.
4. you want your money back
5. they need to fix the lights on the dash.

1) Yup
2) Yup
3) Yup - and maybe buying some decent gears would be a good start. G2 (Genuine Gear) gears are the bargain basement of gears. 4:10 is a factory option in the ram, buy some factory gears.
4) Yup
5) They can't - without a star scan tool they will just be guessing/putzing

OMG...my truck sounded like that with the factory setup, and the dealer service dept. was telling me it is OK...it took me so much time and 3 different dealers to finally have them rebuild my rear end...Good luck

Whining is a bad sign. I've been around, helped, and seen a lot of gear swaps in Jeeps. You have to mark the old gears and take them out. The new gears have to be perfectly aligned like the old gears. It's real tight in there. It's truly a pain. They either have them too close or misaligned is what I have always been taught when they whine. I was also taught that if they whine after install, they are shot. Good Luck!

I went by the shop today and talked with one of the service guys. For the first time I think someone there actually listened. I told him everything that I've vented here and he took notes and promised me that they'd take care of everything, maybe not all in one day, but he said it would be made right. I was waiting the entire time for him to shut me down and say something like "that's the way it's suppose to be" but he never did.

Yea, I see now that the G2 Gears were a mistake. At the time I didn't think going OEM would make that much of a difference. Kind of like getting the MOPAR tonneau cover for 3x what you'd get an aftermarket one for. I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Well I wouldn't necessarily blame the gears or the install, it could be either one or both. W/o really knowing your **** in regards to a differential it's hard to say what it is. Was the whine always there from the moment you drove it off or did it get worse? How many miles do you have on the set?

The whine was there slightly when I left the shop, but it's gotten progressively worse. It'll also get worse the farther you drive it each day. So, at the start of a 20 mile trip, it's there but not really loud, at the end of the trip it's noticeably louder. Oh, and after a 25 mile trip today, I climbed underneath and felt the housing. I'm not sure how hot a normal rear end gets during driving, but mine was rather warm. Not hot enough to burn you, but not lukewarm either.

I've put about 700 miles on the gears since install. The first 500 were rather easy on it, never punching the gas or towing anything.

Well, you're gonna need a new gear set b/c those have already wore in. Don't let them try and reinstall that set, if it was set up right then any whine that was there wouldn't have gotten worse. If you're checking the diff. temp after highway driving it can get quite hot, but around town driving it should only get warm. Keep us updated, I've been through the regearing nightmare and only wish it on my worst enemies.
