Backup Camera advise
I would like to add a backup camera to my 2010 Ram and was wondering what the general satisfaction of the OEM camera was.
Because its mounted in the tailgate handle, this would make the camera obviously point down but how much of a viewing area beyond the hitch do you get. I would like to see what is behind me as well as the hitch if you know what I mean. Locking at the hitch all the time serves only purpose and I dont really tow much.
Would an aftermarket camera with night vision be a better choice and would mounting it say next to the license plate or next to the hitch be a better location.
I was told that a camera mounted next to the license plate would get blinded at night by the plate illumination lights or loose a good portion of the left view due to the recess from the edge of the bumper. Is there any truth to this.
For what it matters I also plan on getting the AllGiG lockpick.

I have the backup camera from the factory and I am very pleased with it's performance. It doesn't look solely at the hitch like you might expect. It has a bit of a fisheye lens and when backing out of parking spaces it lets me see other vehicles approaching from either direction.
Backup camera is the ONLY way to go!! IMHO.
My truck did not come with the camera from the factory, but as part of the deal, they added it. The dealer purchased a "Mopar" camera kit which is built into the license plate frame. The camera swivels up and down (via setscrew) and looks directly at the hitch with a pretty wide angle as well. I like this design vs. the handle mounted camera because the potential abuse when opening & closing the tailgate! Plus when the gate is open, I can still see behind, although not as much.

I love my factory backup camera. Don't go by the picture from the Mopar catalog which only shows a view of the hitch, the actual camera lets you see objects up to the height of the top of the bed and around to the sides of the vehicle. Agree that night vision is not necessary as the truck's lights provide excellent illumination for the cam at night.
