Default Warranty and Aftermarket Parts

I was at the dealer and mentioned that I installed a Corsa cat back and Volant CAI. The service manager began to lecture me on the warranty being void due to these changes. He told me that the valves could burn out because the freer flowing exhaust was not allowing the valves to cool. Does anyone know if this is true?

The only warranty item that is void is your muffler. If any of your other components crap out they have to prove the exhaust was the cause. I can't think of the name of the law right now.

I know the name of it "the BS warranty that allows the company to do whatever they want"
No really there was a GM dealership I used to deal with until I found out they were refusing warranty repairs on vehicles claiming this and that, but what the customer did not know was they were not even doing the repairs of the vehicle but billing the Company for the repair anyway. So there ya go. If they refuse something that you know is for sure warranty. Naw they can't do that these days they send out letters and the dealer here if you return it to them filled out you get a free oil change, so could they?

It's called the The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

If you PLAY you PAY.Old saying on ALL the diesel sites. If that CAI doesn't filter worth a hoot and sand/grit does engine damage your on your own.The manufacture can hold up warranty for months and months fighting it.Your exhaust if damaged do to the install of a cat back can be in question. In defense of the manufacture if damage done due to aftermarket parts why WOULD they want to pay for it.You wouldn't if you were in charge. The DIESEL mods for years caused huge conflicts in warranty and if you read some diesel forums you'll understand why.The facts are that there are much higher warranty claims on vehicles with mods then without.Add some gauges,CAI,exhaust and it draws attention to warranty issues.

Again, if the part you installed does the damage, the company does not have to pay. Simple as that. And I have to say that is resonable. I have invalidated just about every aspect of my motorcycle warranty, but it is the way I want it. Yes, it has a new intake and exhaust which causes it to run lean so I had to rejet it. If I fry the engine because it is still too lean, how can I hold them responsible? It would have been fine if I left it.

Same goes for your truck. If they can prove it is running lean due to your mods, you would be on the hook, and rightly so.

Once again 'You play,You pay" Now I will say some dealer PERSONAL take it too far.A CAI and such does NOT affect your AC controls or your power window switch etc.Its the MANUFACTURE who has the say if warranty voided.NOT the dealer. Its been a real serious issue with the diesel crowed for over a decade. The manufacture even release bulletins on what to inspect for in the way of Mods and if they were removed when brought in for warranty repairs. In this economy they look real hard.

Been installing CAI's in the last 5 vehicles I own. Been there, done it. It isn't worth the headache from the dealerships that are looking for a reason to void your warranty whenever something goes wrong.

Just purchase a Mopar CAI and have the dealership install it like I did.

May cost you a bit more, but all worth it if you ever need a warranty claim.

Yes, you may get lucky and find a dealership that is mod friendly, but all that can change with one personnel change at the dealership.

Let there be evidence of a performance download and have a drive train issue! I have a CAI with a AFE PRO GUARD 7 cone filter on my diesel.I'm thinking about removing it.Can't really tell whens its dirty and working.Best filtering out there is quality paper. Now with real high h.p. and knowing the consequences I'd use a CAI.Other wise I won't again.

You dont have to have the dealer install it....you just need to make sure you have enough knowledge to install it right. (Just like reading the directions)

Again, under the ACT.....the DEALER HAS THE BURDEN to prove that the damage (NEEDS TO BE DAMAGE>>>NOT JUST A PART IN USE) was the result of the installed aftermarket part. I advise anyone I know to MENTION to any dealer rep who even BEGINS to talk about warranty voidance to let it be KNOWN QUICKLY that you are very familiar with the MAG MOSS ACT and that what they are saying is BS. A dealer can't arbitrarily void a warranty without PROPER CAUSE. To clarify...a dealer can't just see you have a part installed and say "oh btw, I'm voiding your warranty even though you do not have a damaged vehicle". That being said....yes the legal system sucks and you could be caught in a lengthy battle that you may win or lose....according to the truth of the case.
