Default drivetrain problems...one after another :(

Unidentified Problems one after another....
My truck is a 2009 Crew Cab, 4x4, Sport, no mods, only drove in 4x4 one day when Atlanta had snow&ice, do not do any off-road driving.

I had to have my rear dif. rebuilt just over a month after I got the truck
- The dealership took care of it.
After the rear dif. was rebuilt I started feeling a remote thud almost every time I stop. It usually happened 1-2 seconds after complete stop when sitting in moderate traffic.
- It took the dealership a few days to say that it was the drive shaft and they changed it.
Now after they changed it, I started feeling a little remote thud 1-2 seconds after I take off from a complete stop, and sometimes I feel the old delayed thud upon stop, or I should say after a stop.
- It does it only when it wants to, I cant really find a pattern to replicate it.
Yesterday I changed my motor oil and decided to look beneath the truck and feel for any loose ends, and I noticed that my drive shaft felt a little loose and I could hear the transfer case when I rotated the shafts.
- Now that the weather warmed up I drive with the windows down, and I started hearing lots of squeaking coming from the transmission or the transfer case when I am shifting from drive to reverse and from neutral to drive or reverse.

OK...here are my questions:

- Should I be hearing metallic noise or that much squeaking when shifting gears when parking my truck?
- Should I be hearing metallic sounds when rotating the drive shafts by hand?
- Is this delayed "thud" upon stop and after take off normal, and what could cause this?
- What should I suggest to the service department when I go there again?

The worst part is that the dealership does not give me a rental car when I leave mine for repairs, which is nasty inconvenience when you have problem after a problem from the drive-train and no-one seems to be able to narrow them down and fix them.

I love my truck, but I think that the day mine was built the factory must have had a "Free Cold Bud" day...

I would really appreciate any input or suggestions.

The first thing I would do is find another dealer if they won't give you a rental. I thought a rental was part of the warranty? When my truck' gets worked on the dealer sends me to Enterprise and pays the rental bill when I bring it back. You bought a brand new truck and are having problems at dodges fault. Its bad enough to drive around in a rental but for them to give you nothing is ridiculous IMO.

None of the issues you have seem normal to me, at least I've never had them.

you do not get a loaner car (paid for by dodge) when dodge performs warrantied repairs unless you have maxcare. i would suggest trying another dealer if your having issues with yours. i switched and found it to be extremely helpful. the new dealer (Grapevine Dodge - Texas) is head and shoulders above my first service choice in knowledge, timeliness and most of all, customer service.

I have maxcare on this truck but on my last dodge I still got loaners for free when something got worked on. I guess its all about the dealer you use

My dealer gives me a loaner and if they are out of loaners they pull a car off the used car lot. Some dealers just give better service than others.

The dealership that I purchased the car is very far from my house, so I go to the closest one in the are, and they refuse to give me a loaner or free rental... Had I know that a brand new car will have so many issues, I would have gotten the "maxcare" or whatever Dodge calls it.

Any suggestions on what may be causing the problem? Does it sound like a transmission torque converter issue?

When moving the shaft by hand it is normal to he a little noise. You should not have noise when it shifts/takes off though.

I know something is not right, but unfortunately am not a specialist that can narrow down the problem. I have an old 2004 Ram 1500 and it does not make any of the noises I feel or hear in the 2009 CC.

I wish I had a good mechanic that I can trust...One that will not only replace parts and hope one of them fixes the issue...

You might still be able to get the Maxcare. I think you have 12 months or 36000 miles to get it. Don't quote me on that, but I do know you can get it later up to a certain point in time.

I have made most of mine back already in rental cars because my truck has been in the shop so many times since I bought it. Maxcare is the only reason I still have the truck.

That is a good question. I had a 2004 F-150 and it did that. Is it a real hard thud like something is sliding around in the bed? I am out here in denver and once i took up the mountains it stared doing that. Just felt like a little play in the drive shaft area. Ford replaced the drive shaft and it still did it after going up the hills. It still drove fine and was a good truck. I just found a better one! My 09 ram has no probs like that after going up the hills. When you let off the gas in 5th you can feel some play but no thuds. Sorry not sure if this helps.
