Default 5'7'' Box size

Just wondering what everyone is thinking of the 5'7'' box size on their crew cab rams. I love the extra room in the cab but now I cant even haul my quad in the back of my truck and am going to have to get a trailer. I love my truck but my only complaint is that they shortened the box soo much. Anyone hauling quads in the box of theirs? if so how are you doing it? Any pics or comments appreciated.

Mopar bed extender? I figured I will use the extra interior cab room way more than I would use the standard 6'3" box. I bought the Mopar bed extender for the few times I would need the extra room. I've been pretty happy with it so far and it was pretty reasonable in pricing. I for one am glad that the box isn't any longer on the crew cab because otherwise it wouldn't fit in my garage and I might have had some hail damage from the storm last night.

Here are some pics of my Ram with RAM BOX. It has a 2007 Honda Rancher 420es in the bed.

I guess I forgot to mention, it does fit in the box but there is no way I can close the tailgate. I personally dont like the idea of a $10K quad sitting with its rear tires on the gate. Im not worried about it just sitting there, I am concerned about when I go over bumps, rough roads, ect. as I sometimes do with the quad in the box that the cables might not hold up to the stress of the shifting weight. I know a few people who have toasted a set of cables in various ways and I worry about the result if they happenned to come apart when I am hauling my quad... ouch.
Hauling with the tailgate down can cause aome paint damage from rocks thrown up on gravel roads as well which I want to avoid if possible.

Does anyone use a ATV Box Riser? I have heard they work well and let you close your tailgate but I dont know if they would work with the short 5'7'' bed.

I do agree I use the space in the cab more than the box but it really would be nice to haul a my quad with the tailgate closed.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I have hauled my Kawasaki 650 Prairie numerous times on rough terrain in my crew cab rambox truck. If you will notice the rear tires sit just behind the hinge of the tailgate. So the brunt of the axle weight is on the tailgate hinge not the cables. And even if it weren't there is still no need for concern. Take my quad with all accessories weighing in at 750lbs. The rear axle weight lets say 350. Thats no more than 2 average men sitting on the tailgate. Plus I hauled the same atv in my 2001 dakota crew with a 5'4" box for 9 years with never an issue.

i wish i would have gotten the crew cab in the worst way. but as for now i dont haul anything etc. so mine is just a people mover .... (i had a dealer buy my lemon srt4 caliber so i had to pick off the lot, and no crews i liked at the time)

i agree. though. i wouldnt want to be hauling kinda heavy stuff with the tailgate down either...

The tailgate and cables can handle the weight.

I guess it depends on use. I had a Silverado entended cab w/SB and gave a lot of thought to the Ram bed before buying. I only used the entire bed of the Silverado a few times since 2002 so I figured I'd be ok with the Ram bed. I wanted the crew cab and the difference has to be made up some where otherwise you wind up with a very loooong truck.

Hopefully, I'll be able to work around any problems with the shorter bed but don't expect them to come up often enough to make me have any major regrets.

I have this shock think on mine I guess to make it so that the tail gate opens easier. I bet that would help you out over the bumps.
