Default Uconnect & TracFone

Does anyone use a bluetooth TracFone with Uconnect?

I have a Motorola TracFone and while I have been able to pair the phone with Uconnect the bluetooth signal is not reliable. The dealer tested the Uconnect and says evrything is fine. TracFone will be sending me another phone (after 3 hours of trouble shooting) so I hope that will fix the problem.

The longest conversation I have been able to have is about 1.5 minutes before the bluetooth signal drops out, most times I can't hear them or they can't hear me. I am hoping the problem was the blutooth signal in my phone and want to know if other TracFone users have had problems.

Default New phone same problem

TracFone sent me another phone but I'm still having the same problem. I don't have much experience with bluetooth but am I wrong in expecting it to either work reliably or not at all?

I mean, if I can get the phone to pair with Uconnect doesn't that mean that it should work?

The bluetooth is just a wireless connection so if it pairs with the phone you should be all set. If your phone pairs with some other bluetooth device and works fine then its your truck. Have you tried to connect your phone with another device.

I have a tracfone for my personal cell and it sucked with the Uconnect so I shut it off. I also have a Motorola HTC for work and it works fine. Something with the cheap phone I am guessing.

You may be guessing right. Like I said if it didn't work I could accept it but it is driving me crazy when it can work perfectly for a minute or two and then stop. The killer is nobody has an answer so far.

I thought bluetooth was a standard interface and if you made a connection you were set. Uconnect said that as long as I have at least Ver.2.0 it should work with no problems.

Default Update on progress

I called Motorola directly and they confirmed that the W376g phone has Bluetooth Ver. 2.0 and is both "handset" and "hands free" bluetooth profile compatible.
I was also able to make a bluetooth pairing with a Garmin nuvi 265WT GPS. The garmin does not have all the features of Uconnect but I was able to make and receive calls without a problem.
I feel this puts the problem in Uconnects lap and will be calling them in the morning to see what they have to say.
Does anyone know if the dealer can actually test the Uconnect or do they just swap out the radio?

It has become apparent that the Motorola W376g simply does not work with Uconnect and nothing can be done to make it work.

I have also discoverd that the only phone you can expect to work with Uconnect are the specific phones they have certified. If you plan to use another phone the only way to be sure it is compatible is to test it out.

So much for bluetooth technology! I give up!

Default Uconnect Tracfone

We recently purchased a new Chrysler 300. I was able to pair up my LG500 Tracfone with it, no problem and it works fine. The issue I have is that it will NOT download my address book, so I can't use that feature at all. Each call I make I have to dial out by hand or voice (which is difficult as the voice part has a difficult time determining the numbers I am saying to it), which makes it more hazardous while driving. It would be easier if I could call out "Call Lisa" or something like that. Why will it not download my phone book? I am pretty sure I followed the directions to a T when pairing up my phone.

Bluetooth technology is a growing industry and the real issue is that the SPECS are not tightly regulated. In some instances the specs can be interpreted differently by SW developers. In some profiles, there are a couple different ways to get it to work. The way one SW writer gets it to work may be different than another writer. This will sometimes work and sometimes not. Uconnect has a team that test phones to see if they work with the system or not. The phones that pass the testing are the ones on the Approved phone list. If they fail, then they don't get put on the list. Uconnect like other carkits just may not work with a phone for several reasons. If the system works with many phones well but doesn't with a few, then the problem is more on the phones side not Uconnect, Sync, Total Connect etc.
If the system worked on a few phones but didn't on many, then the problem would be on the carkits side.

Now as for connecting the phone to other devices and having it work, well this isn't really a good test or diagnosing. The reason why is that the compared device may not support all the profiles that the Uconnect system does. If it doesn't support the profile where the problem is coming in at with Uconnect (or any other carkit) then the phone may work just find.
A while back I had an HTC phone that would cause the Uconnect to reset every time that I got into the vehicle and started to drive off. It would cause Uconnect to reset 3 - 5 times and then it would work just fine. It would work great with my BT earpiece though. Thru some diagnosing, I found that the way HTC was downloading the Phonebook was in an unsupported manner that Uconnect was looking for. After some discussion with an HTC tech, he found the issue, and made a SW update which cured the issue.

Can you explain what you're seeing that leads you to the BT loosing connection? I'm just curious.

This problem is with the phone and not Uconnect. The phone does not support PBAP ( I just went to the LG site and looked at the specs). PBAP is the needed profile for phonebook download.
Now I'm not sure if you know this or not but I'll throw this out there. Uconnect's internal memory will hold up to 32 contacts with up to (4) contact #'s for each contact. So you could add your more important contacts to the Uconnect phonebook.
1) press and release the Uconnect phone button and say "phonebook",
2) you'll be asked to select one of the following "new entry, edit, list names, delete" etc.
3) you'll say "new name"
4) follow the rest of the prompts.

Now you'll be able to say "call Lisa" (as long as you put her in the Uconnect PB.
