Default Paint Defects. How critical should I be?

I’m taking my truck in tomorrow to have the dealer look at a paint defect I found while washing my truck last weekend. The panel below the driver’s door has a huge amount of runs, bubbles, and other imperfections. It literally looks like someone painted it with a brush The problem continues on into the door jamb. I don’t know how I didn’t notice it before. I guess because it’s down low and not something you look at all the time.

I decided to take a closer look at the rest of the truck after cleaning it up and found a few other issues. There are runs in the clear on the driver’s side fender and door where the two meet just ahead of the mirror. You can see a slight yellowish tint to them. They are not that noticeable, but of course I see them all the time now There are three to four bubbles in the clear on the front driver’s side door just below the window. There is also bubbling in the clear on the passenger side behind the rear door about ¾’s of the way down the cab (A little bigger than the size of a quarter. Really noticeable when clean). Finally, there are two runs in the paint at the very bottom of the tailgate.

I’m really nervous to take it in because I’ve heard so many horror stories about paint repairs looking worse than they did before. I definitely want the panel below the driver’s door fixed, but I’m not sure about the others. The bubbling in the clear does bother me though. What do you think? Has anyone else had issues and were you happy with the final result if you took it in? Would you mention everything or just the major one?

the first good washing of my truck i discovered a bubble on my tailgate about half the size of a penny at the very bottom. was hard to see unless you were within a few feet but nonetheless it was a defect on a 40k truck. I went back to the dealer and expected the runaround but they sent it out and painted the whole tailgate.... i was happy with the results and was the only issue on the truck. Wasnt rust, but looked like a rust bubble, they said it was a run of primer that caused the issue...

That is so funny how when you paid 29 grand all of a sudden you are driving a 40k truck. The dealer knows how much you paid so you get treated like what you paid not the sticker. Tell me if you go to a store and buy something on sale and when you decide it's not for you and the sale it done you get the full price. Lets get reasonable. You have a whatever you paid for it and if it's 40G then it better have every option including wifi and satellite tv in the rear . They will fix all that stuff on a white truck I am assuming by the avatar since most of that can me wet sanded and polished out. The company has certain criteria for paint repairs. If you can find a dealer with a body shop. Mine does and uses all Dupont stuff and gives a lifetime guarantee against peeling and fading etc. Gotta love that. So my kid has managed to get the front fender, bumper, drivers door rear bumper cover and a both quarter panels under lifetime warranty...the quarter panels were a result of a tow truck company towing 50 miles instead of flatbedding. Tried to get them to cover it they have themselves so backed up by contracts its ridiculous. Read one of those things you sign when you have your car towed. If it falls off the tow truck its your insurance, they cover nothing. They just tow your car.

Very interesting - I looked mine over real good, and I have to say it's the best paint job I've ever had on a new vehicle. The '06 Night Runner I had had a spot of heavy paint on the bottom of the tailgate, but I let it slide because it was a leased vehicle. The blue '05 QC I leased before that had the worst orange peel I've ever seen. QC seems pretty spotty in the paint department.

I looked my truck over pretty good on pick up but about a week latter I was out getting the mail and came around the corner looking at the truck with the setting sun hitting it's side to see what I thought were two big dents in the bed. But it was two big half foot in diameter spots in the paint. Like the painter robot stopped in two spots. I was having the new hood painted so they just did the bed at the same time. Looks great now.

I love happy endings tired of the complaints for a truck that has so few recalls, and tsbs for a complete changeover. The rrt's don't count they are improvements that are free.

not 3k miles after i bought my 3rd gen 1ton, the paint started comming off of the duelly rocker panels. I took it to the dealership *where i bough it from mind you* and they denied my claim, and said that ''it looks like i messed it up, and had a cheap paint job done and want it to get professionally fixed'' i fought and fought with chrystler about this, but it was completly out of my hands...

so i just had the rocker panels line-x'd and it looked great.... good luck

My truck has all kinds of runs and the hood looks terrible, like stated above it looks like they ran out of paint in a couple spots. I thought maybe it was transport damage and it was repainted in someone's backyard but I have seen a lot of these with messed up paint.

Unless it may rust and/or its peeling off I wouldnt mess with it, seems once it gets redone it never lasts as long as the original paint..

They have had mine for a week. It had trash in the driver rear door. It was under the base coat, not just the clear. I also had a bubble that I didn't notice at first but it popped and left a fisheye in the paint. They are supposed to be done with it today and I'm crossing my fingers they got it right or the war will commence
