Intermittent Sirius signal
Hi all... Have searched the forums but can't find anyone who's had the same problem...
I've got a 2010 2500 Mega Diesel with built in Sirius...
I also have a little commuter car with a Sportster receiver and external "kit" for the magnetic satellite antenna.
The commuter car gets great reception - no issues with broken or intermittent signal.
However, my truck seems to get intermittent signal when driving on back roads with some trees along the side of the roads. The commuter car has no issues with its antenna setup (on the same roads) but the truck signal seems to be intermittent with an "acquiring signal" message on the radio.
Just wondering if there's something that can be done - maybe my antenna is loose?
Anyone have this issue?
Thanks...

I only lose the signal when I go under freeway overpasses, but it doesn't happen every time. Don't think I've ever had a tree take my signal away, but I can't be 100% certain. Sometimes it does just randomly cut out, but its only for a second and it doesn't happen terribly often. Not often enough for me to worry about. I have sirrius from the factory in two other vehicles and they all behave the exact same way. My TJ seems to be the best at keeping its signal.
I have seen it when on heavily wooded roads. But only in the summer, when I travel the same roads in the winter it s fine... Damn leaves
I am sure these radios buffer some data? Maybe it is not so much the signal as it is how much the radio buffers?

I have three cars with sirius, a 2010 mustang, the ram 1500 and a 2010 Jeep Commander and for some reason the Ram drops out way more than the two others. Dont know why since the Jeep is the same radio and antenna, maybe the Ram antenna being in the corner has something to do with it or some receivers are just hotter than others.

My previous satellite experience was a self-installed XM receiver on my Durango, just a magnetic square on the roof.
Now, having had my RAM for about 4 months I can confidently say that it cuts out far more than my XM did. Not sure if that’s anything specific to Sirius (doubt it) or if the antenna used in the RAMs is lacking. Either way, pretty disappointing. One of the frustrating parts is when it cuts out I have to wait and see if it’s an incoming call, or just “acquiring signal”.
Is the antenna one of the 2 black ornaments on the roof, or is it that little round puck at the front of the dash?

Not sure what your 2nd thing on the roof is, but on my crewcab the antennae is the black thing above the rear passenger side seat.
