Default Hellwig rear sway bar

Just finished installing the new rear sway bar. I had no idea that the stock bar was hollow and flimisy. This is supposed to keep the rear end corners from lifting around bends. I am going for a test ride, be right back.

The kit comes without the end links. You would have to order that seperately since you never had a swaybar. But what a big difference in handling. The Hellwig sway bar has 3 adjustments, I installed it in the center position. It tracks much flater around the bends with less sway and lift. I was going to change the end links but I felt that the attachment points to the frame would be the weakest link and left the stock end links alone.

I purchased it from Summit Racing and the Name/part number is Hellwig/7709. I think it costed me 225.00 shipped. If you order it have it directly shipped from Hellwig otherwise you will not receive it for two weeks. Addco also makes sway bars for our vehicles but the sway bar brackets had fitament issues and the bars are NOT adjustable. From my experience I would defitnitely go with the Hellwig. My next step is to change the front sway bar because the back stays flat but the front has a tendency to lift at low speeds and high speed. For the front I would probably go with the Addco cause Hellwig hasn't made a front bar yet. Here is the Hellwig site: www.hellwigproducts.com/

Just a quick FYI... hollow bars are in fact stronger than solid ones.... the strength isat the surface, and hollow bars have twice the surface area....

There is no way that the stock hollow bar is stronger than the Hekllwig bar which is larger in diameter also. I was able to flex the stock bar with my bare hands, couldn't even budge the Hellwig unit. And the proof is in the ride, the rear of the truck stays flat where you can actually feel the difference going around bends. Look up truckin magazine, they have an article where they swapped out the hollow bars for solid ones and you can see the truck after the swap had less lift.

I believe frogslinger was just stating that a tube or hollow bar is stronger than a solid bar of the same size. By stronger he means laterally and tortionally it just basic physics.....He wasn't comparing the stock unit to your aftermarket. Where as dia. and wall thicknesses are unknown.

i read the article in 'truckin' and it looked like they had trouble with the install. the bushings didn't match up. was there problems with your install or did everything match up. from what i read it seems to be a good switch you get alot better control you can even see it in the pictures thru the road testing they did. after you put the sway bar in did you have to adjust the alignment any?
