Default Weather stripping turning white

I had a 2010 with 10,500 miles and I am surprised that the weather stripping is turning white in spots. It's the main strip on the bottom of the window. I have seen this on older cars but not a new vehicle. Anyone else have this problem?

One or two times a month but even after a wash I can still see the white spots.

I am a Process Engineer for a company that makes automotive weatherstips seals like you are referring to. What you are seeing is generaly called blooming of the rubber (EPDM). A result of an undercured compound. If this is the case then washing will never get rid of it. You are simply masking it for a short period. I believe you are talking about the outerbelt seal. It suprises me that Chrysler didnt make these out of TPV. This is the route most vehicles are going for these type seals.

I found a product called "Protectant 303". Its promoted as "SPF 40 sunscreen....for your stuff". I bought it as a protectant for my soft tonneau cover, but its for uses on all exterior plastic and rubber etc. as a protectant. I have been applying it about 3 times a year and my trim looks the same as when I drove it off the lot. Not sure how widespread its availability is, but its the best stuff I have found for this application.

You can order a free sample kit here 303 Products

Thanks for all the info. When I get my next oil change I will say something. If the truck was a lot older I would understand but it's not even a year old. I would have to assume this would be covered under warranty.

I would sure hope Chrysler is not so tight as to not cover this. After all they only pay us like $2 for that part.

Meh. If it's black rubber or plastic, it's going to do that over time. Best thing is to keep it clean. The little rubber stops on my truck's tail gate is as white as this screen is.... I can get it off of there and it will stay off, but it doesn't bug me that much.

Just clean and seal.

Just about every car/manufacturer will do this given enough time. I use "The Wax Shop" light liquid carnuba on my cars/trucks when the trim starts discoloring(maybe annually) and have never had an issue. FWIW this is my 2nd Dodge truck, both live outside year round, and I have yet to see any discoloration in 2yrs. I live in SC if weather/climate matter.
