If its the correct plug the TIP shouldn't matter(whether a precious metal or not) I'm going with the NGK platinum/Iridium when they are available. Until that CODE is pulled its purely a guess what caused it.

Yes and no. You can buy the right plug for these trucks, but they can differ at the same time. When I said a different reading, it wasn't because of the metal differences. (Even if many people figured out that copper is the best on these motors) What I was getting at is that Platinum plugs are usually a cooler heat range, and that in itself will cause the computer to freak out a bit. Happened on our 08 when we swapped from copper to Platinum.

Ok, so I spent the better part of the morning calling all over to see who makes plugs for my truck... Pretty much have these options: Stock Copper Plugs from dealer, AutoLite Double Platinum or Iridium, or Denso Platinum or Iridium. So then I called the dealer, and was told that they would use the stock copper plugs, b/c they have had several people bring their vehicles back b/c of miss firing with the platinum or iridium. Called a second dealership, and they don't me the same thing. They went on to say that the Hemi motors heat range isn't desirable with platinum plugs. WTF?? Went to Napa and talked it over with the guys there, they said that they would probably go with stock as well, even though he agreed with me that who the hell makes a vehicle now days that you would have to change out plugs every 30k.

Anyway, so I guess I'll stick with the crap copper plugs and have to change out 3 or 4 times more than I would using iridium. On the bight side though my dealer did surprise me with cost for putting in new plugs. I was told by the service manager that they would only charge $102 for labor and $47.20 for the plugs. I was like I will be there first thing tomorrow morning. Everywhere else I called this morning was like $300 +. I still can't get over a major car manufacturer making a vehicle that they claim will miss fire with anything other than stock copper crap.

I talked to a NGK engineer last month about this.He said bunk.I'm waiting for the NGK site to have the correct plug in Platinum/Iridium. NGK site has TECH ASSITANCE. I'll talk them quicker then the other sources.Which I did. They ARE the ones making plugs for these Hemi's.

Even when they do have a platinum plug, that doesn't mean that you can decide to keep the plugs in for 60K miles and still keep all of your lifetime warranty intact.

Sucks if you pay someone to do the work, otherwise its about 2 hours and $60 worth of plugs

Is that quote from the dealer in College Station? If so it would worth the drive.

If the plug is designed to go 60 or 100k it should not affect warranty.Only reason they are called for at 30k is that i the life expectancy of the plug used.

I was under the impression that you 09 guys with the lifetime warranty have to follow the maintenance schedule which dictates that you change plugs every X amount of miles?

If its only a 30k plug then you change at 30k.But the platinum/iridium are not.Kinda like a 30k tire or a 60k tire.I had a Chrysler rep say he'd change to a longer wearing plug. What warranty issue is a longer wearing plug going to create? Its not going to hurt a darn thing other then prevent coils being removed every 30k. Its surprising they don't already have a long wearing plug.Everyone else does.Little anti seize on threads at 30k and leave them till at least a 100k.

Because Chrysler knows that a Copper plug agrees with our motors more than a platinum plug does. Several people have figured this out in this section and in the 3rd gen section.
