Default Help me decide on an All-Terrain....

Hey guys,
Im sure everyone at one point has asked this question but now its my turn. Im looking at getting an all terrian tire. I want one with a pretty aggressive tread but also with really good tread design. I had bfg all terrains on my last truck and loved them. I got 75000 miles on them!!! I would get them again but they are running about 250 a piece. When I bought those tires 4 years ago they were about 165 haha. Im thinking about the nitto terra grappelers or the falkner wildpeak. Anyone have any experiences with these tires? Anyone have anyother suggestions. The size Im looking for is 285/70/17 and like I said my biggest concern is tread life and a decent tread pattern with rugged look. I know I could go with mud tire but I dont want to kill my mileage and the road noise is just too much. Thanks guys for yalls help.

Firestone Destination AT gets some of the highest marks of any AT type tire. They run about $140 a piece in the stock 265/70R17 size

I have a set of Wrangler DuraTracs. Really great aggressive all terrain pattern. The humm isn't to bad at highway speeds. Only cost me like $250 or so a tire, but that was for 315's. I didn't want to go with bfgoodrich, nothing wrong with them, they're great tires, just everyone has them. The DuraTracs are pretty cool though. Just my .02

I really like the looks of these tires so I looked them up...$275 a tire in 285/70/17 !!! Thats just too much for me. Although If I had plenty of money these would be at the top of my list. Thanks for the info.

I had a set of nitto terra grappelers on my 2004 tacoma and lifted 2005 4runner. I loved them! They had the agressive look, good ride, very quite, and long life. If I were looking for the tuff offroad look or really doing some offroading I would buy them again no doubt about it. I also have a few buddies running them on chevys and they all love them. Hope this helps!

Luckyshotbrooks,
I have the BFG's in a 275/65/20 (34") and I do like them. I was in the woods all weekend hunting and I never had to turn on the 4wd. However they are really rounding over on the front. They are due for a rotation but I only have about 6500 miles on them. Since you have run these tires before is this normal for these tires?

i had the BFG all terain TA's on my last vehicle and that is not normal. i got over 70K off of them and still had some tread when i traded it in.
the guy at my shop claims that it has more to do with the ram trucks not the tire (he owns a 2008). he recommends an alignment every 4K on these trucks (3rd gen also). i have had the alignment checked @ about 4K ever since and they have made corrections every time. Now my OEM goodyears seem to be wearing better also. i had a big problem with them feathering on the front after 6K miles.
i have the LT alignment, so he wasn't trying to sale me anything.

I will look into the alignment issue. I do have a leveling kit so I am sure that is not helping the issue. I checked at lunch today and they have 7500 miles on them, so I am going to rotate them myself tonight. I don't usually go that far but I had a couple of unexpected trips in the past few weeks and had to use the truck. I also just noticed that the wear is only on the outside of the tires. It must be the leveling kit that is causing the issue. Anyway I thought this sounded off to me so when the truck is in for service Friday I will have them check the alignment. Thanks
