Alpine Upgrade
I'm really questioning the upcharge for the "premium" Alpine system. I have a 2009 Laramie with the Alpine system and have always thought the bass and overall quality of sound was lacking. I really think that now after I was issued a new 2010 entry level Ram for work.
The 2010 base model stereo with Cd player blows the Alpine system out of the water. Did Dodge upgrade the stereos in 2010?
On the 09, the amp for the Alpine system is located behind the parking brake release handle. I noticed there is no way to adjust it. Anyone else notice this same issue?

The supplied sub is better than no sub, particularly if you listen to "modern" rap or dance stuff. For "classic rock" it's as if it is hardly even there.
And for a $2175 option (in Canada) you are presented with a THREE band graphic equalizer.
Wow!

For a factory system, it sounds decent, and I imagine that most people could deal with it for a awhile before getting sick of it. My issue with it is that I like high levels of high, mid, and low range response from my audio and you can't get it on this Alpine system with out first cranking the volume up almost all the way.
For anyone out there thinking about buying a truck with this system, great, but take notice of this fact before paying extra for it.
Also, if you're thinking about buying the Alpine system and having it put in... Simply stated: Don't. You can buy oh so much more in aftermarket audio that it's not even funny and get a much better system for half the cost of the factory system.

When I purchased my 2010 I decided to buy the non Alpine upgrade.... I purchased Boston Acoustics for all 6 speakers and added a JL Audio 10" sub and amp... The sound is amazing. I spent under $500 to make this change. If anyone has questions about products and vendors.. message me.

My real beef is the fact that I do have a subwoofer and the upgraded Alpine system in the 09 Laramie and not on in the 2010. The 2010 bass can and will shake the side mirrors. My 2010 is a true base model truck, no carpet and steel wheels. The difference is huge.

You could get a pair of 10" JBL's put under your back seats, with the box (the 3rd gen box's are comparable with the 4th gen under-seat storage area), aftermarket speakers, and an amp, for the same price as the alpine upcharge, and you'd have a much much better system overall, with real power.
