If I wanted to ensure no one was going to run off with it, beyond taking the key I’m wondering what I can do – that’s fairly easy and reversible.

I’m thinking maybe take a relay or two out of the distribution panel.
Any others?

How do you think they are going to start it without the key? There is an rfid in there, not real easy to hotwire.

 

Not sure, just trying to make it harder. I figure if someone thwarts that, they might still have trouble starting it if a couple of key relays are missing.

Don't think I haven't thought of chaining it to the guardrail either.

 

I personally think that the 100 or so bucks I throw at legally obligated insurance is peace of mind money. Someone wants to steal it? okay, go ahead, I'll get a new one.

 

I haven't checked to see if these trucks have an ignition fuse but if they do remove it and they won't be able to start it. Why are you looking to go the extra step? Are you leaving for a while or something?

 

yea there is alot you can do if you are leaving for a while, also depends on how much you want to do, disconnect the cam and crank sensors and I am sure it will not start. take the battery out. or remove the cable. just to name a few.

Take the wheels off and leave it on axle stands.

 

Drive shafts come off fairly easy

 

Easiest thing you can do that will keep most would be thieves at bay is a fuel cut off switch. You can either put it in the engine bay or up in a fender well where you can easily flip the fuel on and off.

Remember though: Locks just keep honest people honest. IF they really want the thing, they will take it.
