Another thing that can happen to the puddle lights, at least on the towing mirrors, is that water gets into the lamp module and corrodes the electrical connections. If you have this model of mirror the modules can be popped out and you can inspect them. If corroded you can buy your own LEDs and re-wire them into the module or you can buy a replacement lamp module. No idea whether the standard mirror has the same type of module.
