Default Backup camera question

I have the mygig with nav and I'm installing factory camera. it tells me to use ports 3,4,5 on the "white" plug, and if your vehicle has those populated to pull them out and put in the backup camera wires and move on. Am i suppost to leave these just hanging in the back? what are those wires for, anyone know? Mopar directions are terrible at times. any info would be helpful! Thansks

Has anyone actually installed the Dodge camera themselves? I have a Laramie on order, and can get a good price on the OEM camera.

I made a mistake in not ordering it - wife is angry!

I'm wondering what is really involved in hooking one up? Are all the connections already at the back of the truck? What has to be done, physically, to the existing truck?

I'm pretty mechanically inclined, and not afraid of electrical stuff.

How long does the install take?

How much would/should a dealer charge for install - my other option.???

Thanks for any help anyone can provide...

Yes, they will remain loose. Just tape them up.

Not much. Running wires and hooking up. Instructions are not bad.

No, you'll run the wires from the back.

Swap out tail gate handle and run wires to back of radio and under hood. Five wires all together if I remember right.

Couple hours. Hardest part is getting to the back of the radio.

Probably four hours labor and $100 to enable through StarScan or WiFi or whatever they call it now adays.

Installed mine, took about 1 hour 30 minutes or so, start at the front and put the amount needed to run to radio, and then run the rest along the frame and away from moving parts to the back and tiewrap the excess in the back under bed, connect to radio, cam in tailgate, tiewrap along frame, put everything back together and wholla your done. locking tailgate install is much the same.

Thanks, guys. Guess I'll pick it up and install it myself - will give me something to do on a cold January morning. At least the garage heater will get a test this year.

Maybe I'll slap a few coats of REJEX on the paint, while the warmth is blowin!

I think it will be a garage queen this winter, anyway. I'm giving my grandson my old '93 S-10, this next summer, and it needs to be exercised as well.

Doesn't it require you to go to the dealer to have it activated??

Finished camera, in the directions dodge gives you I was looking at the "white plug" the wrong way. the view they give you is from the back and not the front but don't tell you that. ANyhow, camera is very straight foward for install, directions actually make it seem a bit more challenging then it is. as for "turning on" the camera I bought an allgig to do that for me and got video in motion and nav in motion as well.

Default installation

What I did was have my dealer give me a price for installation they charge me only 100.00, as they went by dodge time chart, and I was the first one to get it in my town. Also if I have any problems it tied to my warranty now since they installed it.
