Heated Seats/Steering Wheel w/Remote Issue
Thanks for everyone's help so far.. I am waiting about 8-10 minutes before I head out to the truck. Of course its still blowing fairly cool air as well but figured the steering wheel portion would at least still heat. So not to be a total dumb a$$, how long should I be waiting? I figured 8 -10 minutes is a decent amount of time. I don't expect a fully toasted 74 degree cabin, but the seat should be warm and the steering wheel right or are my expectations to high? I leave everything on AUTO. I don't mess with the manual settings, so the cabin adjusts to the temps I have set. i want to say everything worked fine last year during the winter, but having issues now. Thanks again for everyone's input, I appreciate it!
Dodge's heated seats are significantly noticably slow to heat up and don't get very warm compared to any other car or truck I've had: GM, BMW, VW, Jag...that's all the ones I can remember. In any of these other cars and trucks the seat would get nice and toasty well before any heat was coming out of the HVAC. With my new truck it's the opposite.
If you don't have a warm steering wheel when you get in after remote starting, it's not working correct. And just to double check (I didn't see anything about it in your originall post) with the truck in park have you enabled the comfort setting in the EVIC?
Merv,
Yes the settings are on. The lights DO come on but no heat is being generated until I enter the truck and turn the key to the ON position and reset the button. Hopefully when I take it back in on Saturday morning they will find something. Last time they told me it was working fine with a heat gun. Seat went from 59 degrees to 85 degrees in 5-10 minutes. Must have had the gun pointed at the portable heater next to the tech.
The steering wheel does not get warm or HOT until i turn the key to the ON position and reset the buttons.

I`ve been noticing a trend on all the (D/Ram) forums regarding heated/seats & steering wheels with 4th gen trucks.
Most have been complaining of little or no seat heat with remote start...
see if this makes sense to you guys... the things i`ve been finding out is, dodge might not turn on "full seat-heat" due to no person(s) in the vehicle during remote start. Hence may be the reason why not much heat in remote start mode. It may be a reason that the human body sitting in the heated seat absorbs the heat generated. Without a person in the heated seat, the seat could possibly get way to hot, possible fire hazard. So the seat sensors may be tied in with the remote start feature to keep a minimum temperature until the key is turned on in the ignition (?????)
Dunno, just lookin around for answer`s at this point.
So i too, thought the seats and steering wheel could have been alot warmer than it was, during remote start. (i checked them at 8mins of remote start mode, which is plenty of time for them to activate) So, i checked "my" heated seats/steering wheel with a lazer temp gun, same thing, not near as warm until the ignition is in the "on" position, BUT the seat heater/str wheel were activated.
Personally, now that i`ve owned this version of dodge designed heated seats, i think they really suck. I have the leather seats, and i`ve noticed my *** is on fire, and the sides of my legs are frozen due to seat design and placement of the heaters. I think dodge did a real pizz poor job of designing these heated seats. Center of the seat is hotter than hell, the side`s are ice cold. I`m at the point that i`m going to shut them off entirely. Not to mention, these leather seats really suck for comfort. I had another 2010 hemi truck with the cloth seats, by far WAYYYYYY more comfortable than the leather. Ok, i`m done bitchin now....lol
Anyhow......
Lets here some good honest feedback about what you guys notice with your remote heated seats.
Be very interesting to see if my thoughts on it are close to what you all think
......dam snow is here.....

In my particular case, I am pretty damn sure everything worked fine last year during the colder months. I am pretty sure I would have picked up on this last year if using the remote start nothing warmed up and my a$$ was freezing. The tech at Dodge says that his wife's lexus operates like you mentioned. Once someone sits in the seat, it begins to warm. I have also seen others who have responded to this thread saying that everything works as designed so I am thinking its more of a flaw than anything else.

The first time I read this thread I thought my heated seats were OK on remote start. But I've been paying closer attention. And I've noticed the same. When I enter the truck after using remote start. The driver side seat control and steering wheel control lights are on. But the seat and wheel do not feel heated. Even after waiting more than 5 minutes. After turning the key to run and resetting the heater controls the seat and wheel heat up OK. Although I do agree with others that the seat heater could be better. And the wheel heater gets almost hot in some areas.
So I'm interested to see if there is a final answer to this phenomenon.
