as an option on a new vehicle, isn't it always packaged together as a remote start and alarm? and the control for it is the same keyfob we all get except there is an extra graphic on the button on the fob

so can we get OEM remote start/alarm package installed on our vehicles that we have bought already? I have 2010 ram

I'm going OEM, I had a warrantee denied on a faulty ECM because I added fog lights to the bumper, they were direct wired to the battery (no splicing). The stealership said I voided the electrical part of my warrantee by adding aftermarket accessories. Sure I could have fought it but at what cost, the fight would have cost than just fixing it my self. So for me if it's still in warrantee OEM is the only way.

YES, you definatly can have it installed after the sale, but if you`re thinkin about getting the remote starter pkg soon, you better call few stealerships ahead of time because they are most likely still on backorder status due to the vendor who makes them can not keep up with how many dodge is selling right at the momment. Its a first come first serve basis, and the assembly line/manufactuer`s ALWAYS gets the units first before anyone else does. Anything that is left over, or over quota, those then get sent out to dealerships, which is also first come first sererved

BigDude,
thankyou for adding to what i have been saying on these forums about aftermarket add-on`s vs warranties. Some of these people on hear are really having an issue about me saying to others to go OEM only and not chance the loss of their warranty`s. I guess some people have to learn the hard way, i know i sure as helll did, aspecially after loosing 3 friggin warranties in the past because of aftermarket add-on`s. Its OEM or nothing until the warranties expire.

I've had aftermarket remote starts in several trucks since the mid 80's and never had any warranty issues. I talked to many people who had factory remote starts (Dodge, Chevs, Fords) and the one common complaint was the lack of range with them. Do not buy a cheap starter and have it installed by someone who knows what there doing. If you want to remote start your vehicle on the driveway only go factory, if you want 3000'+ range go aftermarket.

Actually, i really like aftermarket shiit, i make a ton of money fixing all the fugged up vehicles after you hackers fugged them up...!!!!!!

And firther more, this thread was specifically about REMOTE START, not ALARMS
Now go take your meds and chill out
Maybe if factory shiit wasn't so expensive people wouldn't buy aftermarket. Maybe tell us with your 30 years dealership experience why most people use aftermarket, would it be because in a lot of cases factory components failed and aftermarket is cheaper and in a lot of cases more reliable? What about replacing factory parts with factory parts, I don't suppose you make any money doing that?

Upon an invitation to call Ziebart, to check on their warantee - I did just that this morning. Here is what I was told!

"Their warrantee covers ONLY their product, up to where it was installed. Any other warrantee, or damage, would have to be covered by others." I was further told, after considerable questioning, that "we know (assume) that any vehicle manufacturers wiring and electrical system is capable of accepting anything we install." And, that "we will be the ones to determine if our installation caused any damage."

Their statements sure don't instill much confidence in their "warrantee!" Especially if I have a problem with my electrical system later!!!!

And we all know what other manufacturers think about damage after something "else" was attached to their product...... It sure does give them a good "out!"

I think I will stick with dealer installed OEM, at least thru the warrantee period.

Sorry to go off track, but does the factory remote start also have an alarm? If not, is there a factory alarm?

Thanks

Please continue with the measuring.

Dont let them try to charge you more for it as the book time on the install is 1.1 hours. I said above to tell them to put you on the wait list now, as there is national vendor backorder for the starter. So if you can call around to local dealerships and find out if anyone has one, I would do that asap.
I was interested in putting in a OEM remote start myself but heard through the grapevine that the company who supplies the remotes for Dodge went belly up!!! Unfortunately the waiting list for a OEM remote might be a long one as they have to find another supplier!
