Default 5 chimes......

hello all...
New to the site and proud owner of a new 2010 ram 2500 lariate quad cab cummings with all the bells and whisles.....

i got to say i LOVE this truck....
Ive been getting 5 chimes when putting key in ignition for pre start up. Now i read and found that if u hear five chimes that it means to empty the gas/water separator. i checked it and its empty. so i brought it to the dealer and they changed the water separator( saying that it was defective). Im still getting five chimes at start up and there now saying it ( MIGHT BE NORMAL) to get those five chimes at start up. ive called all dealers here in my city and cant get a straight answer on this five chime.
Some say that its normal(has to do with the glowplugs.....) Some say they have no clue about five chimes......and some say we dont know at all. WOW.
So i turn to you's the good people of the forum chat. please does anybody know what this is. im leaving for florida on the tenth from Ottawa Canada and dont want something goingnon during this trip.
Thanks for any input u might have

Cheers Roger

I could be wrong, or they could have changed things, but I don't think the Cummins has glow plugs, it uses heated compressed air. So I doubt that would be the cause.

Other than that I couldn't explain why you're hearing the 5 chimes, sorry.....

go back to the dealership and start one of the diesels on their lot to see if it does the same thing. Otherwise if it runs fine then just drive it.

very nice... I was too busy laughing about the Cummins having glow plugs comment to rationally think of a solution to his problem

5 chimes means your seatbelt is not connected. If you have it connected and here 5 chimes I have no idea what it is.

It could be a number of things. I would start by looking at the dash lights. Could be seat belts, could be your tire pressure could be your water seperator you're talkin about. Not to be a smartass, but are any of the lights on your dash lighting up? Also, the idea of starting another truck and seeing if it does the same thing would be the next place to check. Let us know what you figure out.

Default Stop!!!!!!!!!!!!

WATER IN FUEL, turn stop **** on fuel water seperater and drain. while holding container to catch fuel have some one turn ignition key to on, but do not start, let fuel pump cycle a few times to get h2o out of line. sounds like bad batch of diesel fuel. if this doesn't work you may have to drain tank. if was me an chimes keep going off i would have it towed to dealer or diesel shop.

Seriously? did you miss the part where he said he drained it and it kept doing it. And he took it to the dealer and they changed a defective part.
