Angry No OEM Remote Start Kits?!

Hello all, I am proud owner of 2011 Dodge Ram Laramie 1500. I purchased the truck from my dealer on 12/13 and part of the deal was to include a Remote Start unit. Because the truck did not have it installed, I was given the standard "We Owe" form.

Here it is over a month later and still no part. I've called the parts department, as well as Chrylser customer service. Each time I call, I get a different answer. The latest is that Chrylser sent a blast email stating that there has been "an abrupt stop in the manufactoring of the remote start kit due to a component problem".

Do any of the members have any access to this information or are aware of this problem?

If no remote start kits are being made, then you mean to tell me no new Dodge trucks will have them installed?

Relax, you'll get it, would you rather have a flawed component? I waited 4 months for the reverse camera when I bought the 09 b/c they were on back ordered, just the way it is, you'll get it before you know it, best part is you have the "we owe" form.

If in fact they are changing mfg on this part then you will not see any orders from them.. The parts they have are what are called "Bank Build parts" this meens that they have enough for production for X amount of day's/months..

Once they get the new MFG signed off then parts will be in production for service parts/after market add ons...

Wow, thank you both for the response. I feel more at ease, especially hearing about your experience RolltideHemi. I just hate the feeling that I'm being taken advantage of.

I was feeling like the salesman "promised" the remote start just to seal the deal. Now that the deal is done, why hurry to fullfill the promise. In retrospect, thanks to you two, I see that maybe it's not the case!

Its actually good they caught the problem, when I receieved the cam, it would not set up after I installed it, the dealer could not get it to work either, it ended up being a wire in the harness being in the wrong connection for power, fixed it in 15 minutes vs. all day at dealer, but thats how things go sometimes, just make sure you call them once a week, squeaky wheel gets the grease!

As long as you have it in writing, you'll get your remote start. Don't worry about it, I'd rather wait for one that works properly than get one with a known issue sooner...

Just curious, what is a fair price for an OEM remote start? I called two stealerships here in Illinois and one wanted $475 and the other $550. I felt that this was ALOT of money due to the fact I had a Clifford alarm/remote started for $600 with a one mile range. That system was hands down the best!!! Glass break detector, was sensitive to certain types of vibrations, the whole nine. But $475 for a remote starter only to me seems high. Is it me or a I correct?

Forget Mopar. Viper Responder 2-Way Remote Start with CHALL module is the way to go.
