Seems like it should suck bigtime, even if you had a booster of some sort. Most FM car antennaes are somewhere around 1/4 wave (26-33"), dropping down to a 2" antenna puts you somewhere south of 1/40th wave.

With the new antenna I am good around the city but once out about twenty mins i loose reception but thats when I normally turn the iPod on anyways.
