Guys I really did not get on here to bash or insult anyone. I am not the one who started telling anyone they had a bad attitude or calling anyone tools. I am just defending my position. Just because I have a different opinion doesn’t mean I am wrong. People who insult people for not agreeing with them are THE FREAKING TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lots of friends that have put in projectors from Recon and I don’t like they way they put out light. I have said over and over. PROJECTORS MIGHT BE BETTER!!!!!!!!!! I just don’t think they are worth the extra money unless you like they way the look on your vehicle.

I don’t like the sphere around my headlight...... My Cadillac sts had projectors and hids from the factory...... They looked nice on that car. My escalade has hids and NO projectors.... I think projectors would look stupid on the escalade...... My mother-in-law has a ML350 that has projectors and halogens and it is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I have looked at rams with projectors and they just don’t impress me......... If you have them and you like them, then you’re not a tool, you’re a normal car enthusiasts…. If you have them because everyone else has them, then you’re a tool!

I have changed the headlights in almost every vehicle I have owned. Some I did hids, some I did brighter halogens. Every vehicle I have modified, I did it because I liked what I was doing, not because someone bullied me into it. It seems to me that there are a lot of “projector police” out there and I think it’s really funny.

Next you guys will tell me I need projectors for my HID reverse lights so I don’t **** off the people in the wal mart parking lot when I back up………

JJ @ the retro shop even said that hids in the stock ram housing does not look bad….

Everyone is blowing this way out of proportion.

To each their own!!!!!!!

Lets keep this site fun for everyone and not insult people just because they don’t agree.

The picture above is why you run projectors with HID's, the cutoff prevents blinding oncoming drivers without sacrificing light output. Now you can get close with some OEM housings but it isn't the same. There are a bunch of Rams in my neighborhood all running HID's and none of them (including me) have projectors. Not one of them throws any glare. Now there are a few Fords in the hood that have HID's and they blind you! The Ram OEM housings with HID's do focus not too bad and if properly adjusted will not blind on coming traffic.
I'm getting retro'd projectors just as soon as I'm done paying off Christmas as I want to bump up to a 55W setup and that kind of power needs to be properly focused.
The only glare issues with HID's and the 4th gen rams is from the fogs.

Now Toby look above the cutoff on those pic you just posted. See no glare and good width. That us why you should at least try projectors. You just might be amazed. But you need true hid projectors. Look at getting em from TRS!!

Oh and your escalade has reflectors made for HIDS do you don't blind. That's the difference.

This is a good write-up on the differences between reflectors and projectors, including OEM HID reflector setups.

It's possible that the stock Ram reflectors won't cause much glare with an HID setup, I haven't seen any examples in person, but to say that projectors are dumb and that their only purpose is aesthetics is just willful ignorance.

I too, was once dead set against HID lighting until i (due to extreme glare, but now i know why) understood them and their concept. Now its all i think about doing to my truck next...!!! Toby will come around eventually and agree that installing projectors are for a good reason once he actually see`s what the real differences are.

Toby:
It isnt all about asthetics, ther actually IS a purpose for projectors, and a good one too i might add. Do i personally care what they look like, no, i`m more of a function kind of guy, i can get use to most anything as long as i know what i buy will work better for me rather than just for their looks alone. Good luck to you my friend, i hope you find what you`re looking for and you`re happy with it. But keep in mind, if you eliminate the glare, you`ll eliminate the possible issues that go with it. Projectors will always win my vote hands down, no matter what vehicle they are in.

This is from JJ about the fog lights. And another option for "Tools" like me..... :-)

capped bulbs - on the fogs - check this - http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/servlet/the-288/HID-BULB-COAT-CAP/Deta

il . Its basically a cap on the end of the bulb to help deflect the light into the reflectors. It helps reduce glare from the fogs.

I will retract my statment about projectors being dumb..... And who knows, I might get some put in one day. Stranger things have happened.

Capping the bulb does not eliminate glare. The hot spot is still in the wrong spot and it still will glare.
