Depends on how tough you are. We've got one local guy that I see almost every morning on the way to work 12 months a year - crazy.

Last time gas went up the forum got inundated with posts like this and of course, the good old "how do I get 5 more mpg out of my lifted, V8 truck with 37 inch tires" threads.

I have a good friend who had an '07 2500 Hemi QCSB 4x4 and freaked when gas hit $4.00 a gallon in south Georgia a couple of years ago.

He ended up trading his truck in on an '08 Tacoma (he needed a truck for the bed for his work). Went WAY upside down on the loan as they gave him about $4000 less than he owed on his truck and then basically didn't discount the 'Yota at all. His payments stayed about the same (thanks to extending his payments over 2 more years).

He ended up with a much smaller truck that he hated, same monthly payment but two more years of them, and gained all of about 4 mpg with the 6 cylinder 'Yota.

That $4000 woulda bought a lot of gas, IMO. Too many people go into panic mode and make a change to a smaller vehicle without taking the time to do the math...

Totally agree. And the media-induced panic sure doesn't help people make rational decisions, either.

And one thing I totally didn't mention is that car salesmen can smell someone who walks onto a car lot in "panic mode" better than a shark can smell blood in the water. You are primed to get raped by the stealerships when things get like this, especially when you don't take the time to examine all the aspects rationally.

Stealerships love this sh*t!

to the guy who said gas prices are on their way back down. no their not. they are never going to go back down. maybe 50 cents at most. they will stay going up for the rest of our lives along with everything else. 10 years ago gas was a buck and some change? then it went up and stayed up. two years ago it hit 3 bucks for the first time, went up and stayed up. now it will go up to 4 buck and stay there.

we drive trucks, they will never get great gas mileage. if your worried about mpgs, dont drive a truck. if you dont NEED a truck, dont drive one. I work construction, and own a landscaping company. I fill my bed on the daily, tow weekly, and then haul motorcycles on vacations.

by the time you trade your diesel in and they dont give you $h!t for it, and you buy a gas one, you'll be out 10-20 grand. is that really worth the extra $1000 your going to spend this year in gas? your going to keep the truck for how long 5 more years before getting a new one? unless this truck is staying with you for 10+ years, i wouldnt go trading it in

by the way guy who posted the motorcycle,

THANK YOU

i had a bumper sticker that said "want mpgs, ride 2 wheels"

i use to ride everyday, the only time i didnt was like december to march when the roads were heavily salted and sanded. now after multiple crashes, i've learned to value my life a little more and its been sitting for a few months. but yea, buy a motorcycle for nice days if you dont use your truck for work. bikes get 30-40 mpgs

I live in upstate ny... if ther isnt snow on the roads, i ride. (quite a few ride here thru the winter)
Cold ridin temps wont ever stop me, i`ll just put more dead animal skin on. (i do wear a snowmobile helmet in winter biking)
Snowmobiler`s do it in the cold, so cant bikers...! Their cold weather gear is no different than what we normally wear in cold weather.

Man up, take two wheels away and get your face in the wind....
....or stay home more so you can sip less gas (lol)

Ther`s alot of people today that live for the minute an will always make mistakes, then pay dearly for it later on down the road.
Smart people will always have a plan in effect "before" they make a hasty bad decision.

No, I wouldn't trade in... but then again, I get paid a per diem for my miles I drive, which more than pays my gas bill every month. I use supreme too. Besides, I kind of have a awkward take on fuel/oil prices, as I am in the oil and gas industry, so higher prices mean more job security for me.
But I get what your saying, we got my wife a VW Jetta TDI diesel, which gets some ridiculous thing like 45 mpg... we tend to take it on most road trips.
