Back-up Camera problem?

I have a 2011 Laramie and have the exact problem. Doesn't do it every single time but I'd say about 98% of the time it does.

I had a 2010 1500 and never had this issue, the image from the camera was always sharp and perfect, now I have an '11 3500 and my camera has the EXACT same issue that the first poster mentions, poor image quality with the 'interference' type lines across the screen when it is dark

GOT IT FIXED! It was a huge hassle, had to go to 3 separate Dodge dealerships - The first one told me it was a known issue and there was no fix. I called Corporate and they told me there was no "known" issue and made me an appt to another dealer. The second dealership literally lost my truck for 1.5 days and didn't do anything to it, so I took it to a third dealership who luckily were competent. They installed a new camera unit and that fixed the problem.

Its incredibly frustrating that most of the dealerships either make up their own stories or are plain idiots, but at least I found one that fixed me up!

Oh and also, the paperwork describes that they installed a newer version of the camera unit, which I noticed also has the guide lines - my old one did not have the guide lines.

I don't have the camera in mine, I told them to remove it before I took it off the lot. Its a nice thing to have im sure, but I just don't want to get accustomed to it and reliant on it.

I have driven in a caravan with the backup camera in the middle of the night and I did not see anything, its a 2010, so it can't be anything in it being a newer camera. Unless upon install they are leaving a film over the lens. The only thing that I could think of is the low level light. Could be different in a caravan with the reverse light setup.

But here is another thing to try, did you try shining a flashlight around on the surface of the ground or even around the camera? It could just be the angle of how the camera is installed reflects how much light the camera is actually seeing. Hence why some people are seeing it and some are not.

I know there are some users on here with HID reverse lights, I don't know if these guys have cameras but do they have the same issue?

Just some thoughts to add for your guys, hope you can get er solved

how long is this covered by warranty? I need to get this fixed, but am too busy at the moment, should I be hurrying to a dealer?

I believe it is 12 month/12,000 miles for the camera itself (when purchased and installed by the dealer) or the remaining balance of the factory warranty on the truck, whichever is greater.

Default Fixed it!

After 2nd trip to dealer, I convinced them to change the camera. They ordered the parts and finally changed it last week. All is well now. It works perfectly at night and the update included the green/yellow/red distance markers! They also did a software reflash.

I'm finally happy with the back-up camera!

My camera looks like that now, too. Like yours, I cannot see anything in the dark and it will back you into another car on the right side before it shows you are that close to it. It is just about useless in the dark. I was rear-ended and when the repair shop took the tailgate off for the second time to get the paint right, this is what I ended up with. It was fine before they took it off the second time. I took it to the Dodge dealer to get them to look at it and I was told by the people that set the appointments and take the truck in that the casing was probably screwed in wrong and the camera was pointing incorrectly because of it. After keeping my truck all day they called to tell me that they compared the view to a couple of other trucks and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it,said it was just a few millimeters off and did not need any repair in their opinion. It was crystal clear before so I would have to say your camera is not installed correctly. Just my opinion, after being told this by the Dealership, prior to having the other repair shop talk to them. You might try taking yours out and re-installing it to see if that helps.
