Default 2010 Ram 5.7 - "I" (info) indicator lit up

This is a wierd one - yesterday I noticed on the driver's instrument cluster, in the LCD window (Odometer Display / Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) Display Area) at the top, a small white box with the letter "i" popped up on the screen - next time I started it, it said "Informational Message" so I scrolled down to read it and it said "Oil Change Due, Contact Dealer" - the odd thing is I had the oil changed on 1/13/2011 at 5336 miles. Today is 5/10/2011 and I have 7900 miles on it. Is there some reason anyone knows of that this indicator would come on early? I checked the oil level, its fine, and oil is still pretty clean. Can't think of why it would come on, never has before, although I usually change it every 3-4 months. Has anyone every had this oil change info light come on prematurely, or know why it could be coming on for me all of a sudden without any real reason? Thanks.

They did not re-set the oil indicator when they changed the oil.. Prettu simple to do..

Turn key on but do not start the truck.. Pres the gas peddle 3 times within a 15 second period..

Turn key off... Re-start truck and theat message shoudl be gone.. If not do over..

Actually, sounds like it came on 2500 miles after the change, so they probably did reset it. Somewhere around here there is a thread on the oil change interval warning saying that if the vehicle detects 'severe service' conditions it defaults to 2500 miles for the change interval warning. 'Severe service' conditions can be as simple as lots of short trips or excessive idling.

Frankly, I find the automatic warning totally useless and I just watch the odo and change at 6000 mile intervals (synthetic). The old oil change reminder in our 2005 Grand Cherokee was way better because you could just set your own mileage and it would come on then. These days too much computer overthinking things == useless crap.

Mine has been coming on every 2500 miles since new and I am at 47k now. A useless 'reminder'. I just change oil every 5k or so since it is easy to remember at this interval.

So does the 'Contact Dealer' message come up when the Oil Change Due comes on?

Had it pop up on my '09 this week.

Only had it a year now, and don't recall what came up (besides Oil Change Due) last time.

Finally put enough miles on it that it's ready for it's 2nd oil change in a year.

Did you also receive the "Oil Change Required" message? I don't see anything in the Owner's Manual regarding this, but I'm pretty sure the "Contact Dealer" message should pop up when you need an oil change.

Yeppers, they (Oil Change, Contact dealer) popped up the same day.

I was hoping that was it, and not a problem with the truck, but I couldn't remember if it came up on the last 'oil change due' or not.

I suppose I'll know for sure once I change the oil and reset the light

My plow truck is also an '09, but a 2500. It doesn't have that fancy EVIC panel.

Thanks Jack

No problem Randy! Keep us posted on if things are all good after changing the oil and resetting the light, just to be sure.
