Chrome Clad 20" Repair
So I purchased these wheels over time. I bought one with minor damage and the rest where take offs with no miles.
I have been Reading on forums that there is no way to repair the chrome shine on chrome clag wheels cause they are just "fancy hub caps" and not really chrome.
Can I order the skin from mopar and replace it?
Or do they sell a sort of chrome film so that I can cover the minor affected areas?
Or am I better off painting them to get a custom look?
Here is a pic

And here are the new ones with custom painted center caps to match the truck

None of the above!
You could try and take them to the dealer and tell them about it and see if they will cover them. I had an issue with mine, and they replaced all 4 of them. I know others on here have tried the same thing and the dealer wouldn't cover them. It may and may not work. As long as your warranty isn't up.
They can be reskinned... but it would likely cost as much as the wheel. The glue used on those is tough, but there is a procedure... I have been to the plant that makes them and sometimes they have to be "reworked"...
I called the company that makes them for Dodge, they told me they would not sell to the outside public, since that have a contract with CHRYSLER on other skins, if they did I would buy a set and keep them stored, that would be the best thing to not have to worry about a curb check.
I beg to differ.
They do sell "chrome" film. One point for me.
And you can paint these wheels. You can paint almost anything with proper preperation and technique. Two points for me.
To the rest of you, Thanks for all of the suggestions and insights. Keep them coming.

So, I decided to paint my wheels black. I'm going to use dulicolor Wheel coating. Going to start working on it tommorrow. It kind of hurts sanding down the new wheels but, they aren't really chrome. So, Lets do this. Will post pics.
Would be smarter to sell the new rims for top dollar and buy a set that are a few years old and someone just wants to get rid of them cuz they are corroded. They are on ebay new and used all the time. Good Luck will whatever, if you paint make sure you post steps I wanna see this job done.
I probably should have gone down that road...
But, I'm loving this look. I actually plan on retouching the wheels tommorrow. Wheels look kind of green under the sky.
Might try new paint. And I painted my driver side calipers today. Will finish tommorow.
Also, the wheels I got are bigger than what I had... Should I have the dealership readjust anything?
