Default resonator question

Ok, I do a lot of my own maintaince, and after market stuff to my own truck and I am pretty mechanicly inclined. So this may seem like a dumb question. I see post where guys have removed there resonators on there exhaust of there truck. So my dumb question is. Where and what the the resonators? I am guessing it is the 2 oval parts on my dual exhaust just before the tips. Is that right?

Correct, and they mellow the bark of the exhaust. "Soften" it.

So If i cut them out, it will make the exhaust a little louder. So if I do that instead of putting a new muffler on, it should give me the little more sound that I would like. Thanks for all the help.

sweet, thanks guys. I am hoping on doing that to my truck instead of replacing the muffler. Even though I was under my truck today, and looks like my muffler is going to have to be replaced sometime in the near future. Also, MadMax, did adding the CAI make it any louder? I know in my old truck I had a CAI in it and it made the inside of my truck pretty loud.

I swapped the muffler first, then took the resonators off later. The difference with and without the resonators wasn't that big, but you could tell a slight difference. The biggest thing it changed was the the drone of MDS on the highway. With the aftermarket muffler when MDS kicked in it would get a bubbling sound, at least that's the way it sounded to me. It wasn't annoying or anything, but you could tell it was there. With the resonators off it seemed like the MDS highway burbling quieted down some.

If you can remove them yourself, or can find a shop to remove them cheap, then I say do it.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i remember reading that the resonators have alot to do with interior sound? i'd love a little more exterior sound, but not at the cost of interior drone.

Well if you want to change your exhaust and don't want drone then I would strongly suggest you buy the corsa catback which is sold under their DB name. It has excellent rumble outside and is quiet as stock going down the road but will really roar if you floor it. I switched from an 18" magnaflow to the DB system and have been extremely happy with it.
