Angry Tailgate stollen!

My tailgate was stolen off my truck recently (parked on my street under a street light ) and wanted to know if anyone knew of somewhere I could get a replacement. I called the dealership and they told me it would be around $1,500. That seems a bit ridiculous to me. I have called around several places and have been told that they do not make an aftermarket tailgate for our trucks yet.

Any ideas......please help!

here's one on ebay that will probably sell for $450 including shipping. it has some slight damage that will need some paint/body work. it would be great for someone wanting to shave the tailgate.
good luck

For $1500 let insurance cover it. If some losers stole it you probably need to check the rest of your truck in that area closely to see what other damage they did. These things don't come off that easily and they probably scratched up something too.

Wow, this comes up time to time in 2nd & 3rd Gen too and EVERY time, to my recollection, it happened in Texas. What is it with tailgates in Texas???

I'll agree on the insurance - but doesn't come off easy? It just lifts off

I don't know, it wasn't easy for me. Maybe I'm just dysfunctional. But the one and only time I had to remove it it took a bit to get it in the right position to pull it up/out. Not to mention fussing with the camera and lock wires. Perhaps it is easier if you don't have any electronics in the tailgate.

Houston CL has a couple. Here is a brand new black one for $500.

A couple more, some say 09-11.

As mentioned, EBay, CraigsList and local junk yards.

If you only have a $500 deductible just get a new one and have insurance do its job.

Your old one is likely on the Internet or at a metal recycling facility.
