Default Towing Oil Temp

When towing my travel trailer my oil temp gets up around 110-115C (230-240F) I am running QState Synthetic oil. Does this sound too hot? Wondering if they make a better oil cooler for the 4th gen 1500's? I have noticed that by using tow/haul mode and keeping it in 4th gear works the best, keeps the tranny temp way down.

If you are towing, I would always use the Tow-Haul mode. 5th gear wont last long under continuous towing.
As long as you are using 5w20 as recommended, all should be good. I'm not sure where your oil temps should be, but that sounds about right.

Thanks. I always heard that HEMIs ran hot, but wasn't sure how hot. I do run 5w20 fully synthetic, probably should change out the tranny fluid to syn too.

My tranny temps yesterday pulling my boat from the lake to my house (about 14 miles) never exceeded 153 and oil temp was at 208. This is in Texas and it was 102 outside. The A/C was on high and I was using tow/haul.

I doubt your boat weighs anywhere near what my camper weighs. Its about 9200lbs fully loaded. There are some fair sized hills around here in Ontario, and the trip was about 250 miles. I also had the AC on high, but I don't think that matters too much. When you have 400 ponies I doubt the AC compressor puts much load on the engine. The highest it got was around 239F, stayed around 230F for most of the trip. I talked to the service guys at the shop and they didn't seem too woried about it, especially because I run fully synthetic. They also said the hemi's do tend to run hotter than other engines. I was more worried about keeping the tranny temps down, which were at about 150F.

Chrysler ATF 4 is synthetic from the factory. 150 degrees trans temp is normal for most cars.

I never heard or read about Hemis running hot. My temps with the Hemi, oil, trans and coolant are noticeably lower then my 2006 Corvette.

When I've pulled large trailers in mountain areas I've seen the oil temp be about equal to the water temp. I think that was in the 230-ish range. In normal driving the oil temp is usually a lot lower than the water temp.
