Towing
to each their own...I have a 1500 and will be towing my 8500 lb 5th wheel in August. I tow it once a year. This will be the first year for this trailer but towed a 7500 lb bumper pull and a 800 lb golf cart in the bed with the same truck last year. Pulled like a dream with no issues.
It comes down to each persons situation. If I had to tow it several times a year I would get a bigger truck. Common sense. So asking the weight police won't get you the answer you need. Go back 10, 20 plus years and look at what was towed then... Laughable by todays standards yet you almost never heard of issues, accidents, lawsuits or Judges with uncanning amounts of RV towing knowledge... why? peoeple respected and understood their limitations. Today there are too many people unaware of how to properly drive a Prius let alone a 1 ton truck with a 15k toyhauler. So peoples ignorance, like alot of other things in life lately has gotten out of control!

Another problem is the max towing is for the "stock" truck. So if you add for example air bags on the back, or replace the coils with air bags or heavier duty coils, then you up the capisity of the truck. If you run load range e tires instead of load range c then your max towing goes up. This conservation can/will go on for a long time and everyone has their own right and wrong.
I have personally seen a 30' equpiment trailer with a bobcat and trackhoe being towed down the interstate by a S10.
And I know of big rigs that are overloaded on a regular basis, or a tow truck towing a truck is most of the time over loaded.
The bottom line is you have to feel safe in your truck and if you feel your truck is to squirmy then by a bigger truck.

As for the S10: I saw guy dressed as woman, doesn't make me want to do it though! lol
All the things you said will help it tow WILL make it tow SAFER, but it can't change the rating.
Dennis, you know what your towing and if you should do it. Let them nitpick, if you are within your weight ratings you should be fine.
