Default Hood switch

This may be a stupid question, but what is the switch for that is connected to the hood release on the front of my truck? I have a 2011 Outdoorsman.

Do you have a factory security system or hood lamp?

It is so the remote start knows the hood is closed

Not sure if I have a security system or not, how do I know? Hood lamp is on a mercury switch I assume as it shuts off when the hood as about 1/2 way closed.

I do have factory remote start. Another dumb question, why does the remote start system need to know if the hood is closed?

So mechanics don't lose an arm if triggered by accident.

And believe me those damn plastic ****/button whatevermatchicallits do pop off and disappear like a catholic girl's cherry on prom night.
Then the remote starter won't work and it will say hood is ajar on the EVIC.
I lost mine in the middle of winter. Had to stick a screw through the ting to hold the plunger down. To hell with going out and manually start it. I am spoiled like that ya know.....

That reminds me, I don't even have a hood light in my truck. It's an ST but I don't recall ever seeing a vehicle without one. Are all the ST's the same...no hood light?

My SLT does not have a hood light. My old GMC had a gravity activated light that came on when the hood was opened. I am tempted to go to the bone yard and get one. The only need is to bring the +12VDC to it.
