It's not going to come from your dealership. It will come from Chrysler. Mine came today, even though the work was done yesterday. I learned about it from a phone call from Chrysler a while back.

I called my dealer about 2 weeks ago. Told them that my truck had the recall for tie rod ends. Gave the VIN, Yep confirmed you need the ti rod ends changed. I made the app with them for yesterday. I drive 1400kms to get the work done(and do some shopping). I go to pick the truck up and all required work is done EXCEPT the tie rods ends. They have to order them, WTF. Kinda pissed about that. Now I have to get my local dealer to do it which I'm not to fond of.

Well, that sucks! A competent dealership would have checked their inventory for this recall at the time of appointment and planned to order parts if they were out. This isn't like your typical random complaint service visit where they don't know what they might need. If someone is coming in for the tie-rod recall they can predict pretty well what they need :-)

I believe it takes an hour or two. My truck was dropped off for the dealer to have for the day but they called within about 3 hours to say it was done. And that was with them doing the K17 HVAC reprogramming recall too, and also claiming to bleed my brakes. Which is a story for another time.

I got my recall notice a few days ago and have an appointment for next Tuesday. Supposed to take 1.5 hrs. I asked the service mgr if the recall includes an alignment, and he said all they do is check/correct the toe, as that's the only thing affected by this repair. Is this sufficient, or should they be doing a full alignment?

I just dropped mine off for the day to have this recall and an oil change done 30 min ago, and the shuttle brought me home. Most dealerships have a shuttle service, so be sure to ask. Frankly, I doubt they want you sitting there for 3 hours anyhow. LOL

My dealership will shuttle me the 25 minutes out of town I live too, but we bought both my truck and the wife's Jeep GC there, so they do go out of their way for us a bit.

All,

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience this has caused many on this thread.

As far as the stocking of parts go, I just want to let everyone know that sometimes with a recall on a large volume vehicle, Chrysler will limit the amount of parts a dealer can order at one time to those that have actually came in for the recall. Many times dealers will order large amounts of these parts when they do not even have the need for them yet. This may prevent other dealers from being able to get their parts in a timely fashion and that is why the ordering process may be limited.

Other times the supplier of the part may just not be able to keep up with demand. Sometimes Chrysler just doesn't do a well enough job of predicting how many parts will be needed in specific phases of the recall.

Whatever the reason for your recall part not being at the dealership, I can assure you that is a top priority at Mopar to get the recall parts to your dealership as fast as possible. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Not to hijack this, but being as we have an official factory rep...

Hey Chris B. (DodgeCares - Top Care Specialist) - on this forum, we go back/forth about using the platinum plugs on our HEMI's that the factory uses on the SRT's - can someone from Chrysler Group definitively answer whether or not using the platinum plugs will void our lifetime or term warranty?

We don't see how/why we need to replace plugs every 30K living in the 21st Century. SRT's don't need to, so if we use the platinum plugs, why should we? Thanks.

I just had my tie-rod ends done Friday. Everything seems fine, drives straight, no noise, etc. I just hope is was really necessary.

As for changing the plugs every 30K. What's the big deal? I would rather keep them changed frequently, then change them every 100K and have one frozen (happened in my GTP, and my Z24). When I had my Sierra, I changed them from platinum to copper NGK's when I bought it at 50K kms. Then changed them again at 100K kms, then again right before I sold it around 150K kms. Took my father-in-law and I an hour and a 6 pack to do it each time. Wife's jeep only took 30min, with was a little disappointing to us as we only had a beer and half to do it,

I think even if the RAM takes 2-3 hours with all 16 plugs, what's the big deal? I would still rather take a Sunday afternoon every 2 years to change some plugs then leave them in there for 6-7 years. Just my 2 cents though.
