2009 Ram rear end locked up???
I have a 2009 Laramie CC with 3.55 gears. While traveling down hwy(around 65 mph) when the it seemed like the rear end locked up lunging us forward and immediately released. I continued down the road and it happened again about 5 miles later. Immediately turned around and drove it straight to dealer. They seem a bit perplexed by the situation. They said they would have to test drive it a while to mimic the situation.
Anyone else heard of this??
I have been reading the treads about the c-clips and seem to think its pointing in that direction.
Luckily it released since I had my family in the car - it could have been devastating.

It is possible for something foreign to get caught in the gears and stop them. But expect there to be damage. Good idea on taking it to the dealer and letting them inspect it. Let's hope that they find something.
thanks weedahoe and oldjeep.
is the pinion nut loosening a commen issue? haven't seen much threads on the issue.
I forgot to add that I had the front and rear differentials serviced at the dealer at 12,000 miles.

I had a similar issue but i was parked for a while and when i went to take off it was locked up like in the diff or something, never happened again except for maybe 6 months later when my rearend failed, gears started howling.
I would almost say your diff is ****ed up or something, there is something not right about those 3.55 rear ends i would stay away and get them to put 4.10 or 3.92 instead

Thanks guys - i have been researching everything the net all day -found this on an earlier forum..... "the bearings on the transfer case had broken so intermittently, the front drive shaft would catch and lock up.if it is 4x4 check the transfer case bearings on both the front and rear shafts."
What do you think??

*UPDATE*
Stopped by the dealer today. They seemed very concerned in returning my car. They said mechanic contacted "star" and they have no reported cases to refer to. They also said that they pulled the rear cover and rear is clean-no shavings/metal/damage. I explained about the research I found regarding the transfer case bearings> they will have the mechanic into that tomorrow.
