Hey everybuddy. I just upgraded to a 2011 1500 Longhorn, from an 08 Sierra. Love the truck but I am diapointed because the truck didnt come with towing mirrors or a trailer brake. I guess I was misinformed because I thought these came on all longhorns.
I should add that I didnt see the truck before I bought it. I live in the middle of nowhere in Northern Canada and had to get the truck shipped to me.
How hard is it to install the mirrors myself. When I did the Sierras mirrors I had to take the whole door panels off to get at the wireing. Hopeing its easier on the dodge

 

You do have to be sure that you check everything on them. Longhorn is just the model kind, just like dodge has the sport, SXT, SLT. The thing with each of these models is you do have to add certain things to is base model, especially when it comes to the options.

Trailer brake is not hard at all to do. We have lots of guys that custom install their own aftermarket on in. But mostly we get people just installing the factory one. (EASY INSTALL) The only thing that people question is if they want to pay money to get it flashed into the truck. There is another thread somewhere here about that

Mirrors are not too hard. You just have to be 100% sure that the bolt patterns are the same. You do have to take the door panels off, I have not seen a vehicle that you haven't! Basically if you take the door handles off there will be 3? bolts that hold the mirror on. Its just a quick connect that unplugs them. Should not be too hard if you have a little mechanics behind you!

Look on E/Bay for mirrors. I just bought some aftermarket no names that looked IDENTICAL to the factory's for my dually at less then half factory price. Dealer charged .5 a side to install. Said they install a bunch of tow mirrors. Some they sell,some factory from e/bay and some non factory from e/bay. Said so far all had worked fine. In fact their parts manager told me about the non factory e/bay ones. I could have installed them. Didn't want to.

 

Mirror installation is a breeze. I had dealer installed slide outs that I ended up removing because they sucked and had a huge blind spot on the passenger side. There were 2 drawbacks I couldn't overcome, my wife hated them and almost got into accidents due to the blind spot(s) and they made the truck hard to fit in the garage. I now use the clamp on ones and they actually work well for the price.

Installation of the mirrors is as follows; pop the plug under the door pull handle and undo the screw there, on the perimeter of the door panel, pull out the centers of the plastic fasteners, they are really easy, remove the door lock bullet or whatever you call it (manual door lock) and slide the skin up. The door courtesy light remains attached so rest the door panel on a crate or something. Now the mirror harness unplugs from the door and the three nuts that hold it in place get removed. About 15 minutes a side. Make sure you use the foam gaskets or you'll get water leaks.

 

Can you install the Side mirrors with the puddle lights if you only have the basic mirrors now??

Is the proper wiring harness already there, so I just plug in the new mirrors and the lamp will work
