I finally got mine fixed Friday of last week. I have 56k miles on the truck and only the lifetime powertrain warranty. I printed out another copy of K17 recall and brought it in with the outer tie rod recall notice. Dropped truck off at 7:30 am. They did the outer tie rod and realigned truck, pulled center console and front part of dash bezel to get to the lower actuators and replaced just the floor/defrost actuator. Receipt simply said, reperformed recall K17. It had to have been another reflash as well as the actuator replacement because when I went to reinstall my tune back in, the trans schedule throttle positions were all slightly different so I needed to reset all these. Hey, no big deal at all since it matched exactly the sample schedule throttle positions I used as a template. I also has the tires rotated while it was there.

They called at 2:45pm the same day, truck was done. No more clicking/knocking and I have defrosters again ! Great service experience from the dealer here.

Funny mine does not mention K17 recall, I had that done a year ago or so, then only 19000kms bang bang started, the new receipt calls it warranty.

Uashemi,

I am glad that customer service was able to help you. Hopefully the new dealer will be able to resolve the issue.

Update...as expected the dealer called me and tried to say the clicking wasn't covered. They were shocked when I already had a reference number from chrysler for it. Then they tried to tell me that the CEL was P1004 and the short runner valve needed to get the TSB work and it's not covered under warranty. Again...already had a claim for that too. They called chrysler and then told me that I yes the K17 was infact good for 10 years, DUH! But that short runner valve wasn't because I didn't purchase a service contract. I called Chrysler back and guess what...it's covered under the powertrain warranty. DUH! It's part of the powertrain. Amazingly they had the actuators in stock at that point but would have to order the short runner valve. See what happens. Chrysler also said that because I had brought it in before the 36K warranty ran out for the same issue it would be covered anyway. The amazing thing to me how much the dealer fought me on this. IT MAKES THEM MONEY! They should have called them to find out, for ya know, customer satisfaction purposes. Rather than acting like a bunch of know-it-alls.

Uashemi,

Thanks for posting your experience in this forum. This is a great example of what the Customer Assistance Center at Chrysler deals with everyday. We understand that while the majority of service departments work to quickly resolve a customers issues, there are some dealers or service technicians that may not be as customer friendly as we would hope. In the vast majority of cases a customer service agent can resolve the issue or get you the information that you need to have your problems corrected or your questions answered. If anyone out there feels they are not getting the service they should from their dealer, or have any other questions regarding your vehicle, please call the Customer Assistance Center number in your owners manual and give an agent a chance to help.

I will always try to post any recall or TSB information on these boards when they apply. If anyone has a question or concern about a service bulletin or a recall please don't hesitate to PM me your VIN and question, and I will look it up for you.

I am in Canada and had and issue with a dealer and called Chrysler Canada LLC Customer Service and the issue was resolved on the first phone call. So if you have a problem with a dealer give them a call. Dealers have expectations to live up to in the eyes of Chrysler.

I had this issue around when the notice came out, couldnt get in to the dealer so I opened the center console, and removed the actuators and the doors inside moved, re-inserted the actuators and put everything back together and did not have the clicking issue again, and yes I did get all of the repairs done, just did not want to damage anything and couldnt stand hearing the clicking noise.

Lu,

I do not know if they will have a recall on this issue or not but if I hear anything I will post it on the correct thread as soon as I find out.

You do not have to pull the console or replace the doors. Get the K17 software flash for the controller. The blend actuator that controls the temperature is behind the lower glove box. Its this one that the plastic gears inside will strip and break. Simply open the lower glove box, squeeze in the stoppers, and let the glove box all the way down. The actuator is to the left, and low. Remove the 2 screws, and connector. Replace. Done in 3 minutes!

Don't let the stealership remove all that stuff, just ask for the K17 flash and have them replace the temp blend actuator.
