The actuator is to the left, and low. Remove the 2 screws, and connector. Replace. Done in 3 minutes!

Don't let the stealership remove all that stuff, just ask for the K17 flash and have them replace the temp blend actuator.
Not according to the copy of the K17 recall service procedure I read. It is a safety recall, since the air control to the defrost is affected and could limit visibility. That was my issue, it all came out the floor vent regardless of where the air control setting was and made an annoying knocking when you started the truck. In the service procedure, it shows these air flow actuators ( and I think also the recirculate actuator ) are behind and under the HVAC controls, or in my case remove the console and dash bezel to get access. You are correct that the ones by the glove box were the temp controls. The manual temp control has one less actuator than the auto temp control.

Unhappy K17 recall and backordered part

I just bought my 2009 Ram 1500 about 03 week ago and of course it has the K17 recall that needs to be done. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer for yesterday. Dealer checks it out and then tells me that the HVAC Control head is bad and they had to ordera new one. I'm then told its on backorder and they will call me when it comes in. I know this affects lots of 09-10 Rams, so I thought that they would have plenty of extras. Does anyone know if in fact this part is on a nationawide back order? It's nearly winter time and I have no heat or defrost capabilities.

Just got my 09 back from the dealer after the HVAC repair. It was in for a week while they ordered parts. They thought the parts were back ordered, but they came in during the week. Looks like it may depend on your location that determines parts availability.

Default addendum:

Blend doors intermittently bind causing plastic gears inside the actuators to break.

The parts that were replaced included:

HVAC housing assembly.
Two blend door actuators.
HVAC control head

Hey that sounds like all the stuff the did on mine except no control head, but there were some kind of doors and I think they ordered the wrong thing the first time so that was the extra day.

Default k17 recall

Crazy stuff i'm hearing. I had a strange tapping noise under my dash also. After doing some research i found out it was the ac actuator blend door. Took it to the dealer that was an hour away and had to leave it for the day. I also read during the research that there was a recall. I asked the dealer about the recall and he told me there was NO recall on it. It was under warranty so i didn't question it any further. That was 3 weeks ago and guess what.. the tapping noise is back. My only vehicle that i use to get to work was in the shop once .. now it has to go back. This seems to be a terrible engineering design and a lot of dealers are not honoring the recall. Crazy.

they took the short cut obviously and just did the update....well nothing you can do bring it back and tell them to fix is right. They gave me mine back and told me it would be safe, I asked what if I need defrost, it was stuck on the floor. They said the weather will be good, like what if I was going up north or something. They just did not want to have to pay for a rental, included in my warranty. They had to anyway cuz on Monday they ordered some wr0ng parts and I told them I was not taking it back til fixed. So go a Durango for a day.
