Will this hurt my truck??
It's not the backpressure I would be worried about. With the cats and muffler still on there, pressure should be fine.
The biggest problem is the the exhaust gasses having easier paths to the cab. Carbon monoxide kills!
Once you can afford to do it right, getting the spent gasses back beyond the bumper, or exiting sideways beyond the rear tire -=- you will have much safer system.

1) Very nice brand new truck - check
2) Hack up the exhaust because it doesn't sound cool - check
3) Can't afford to do hack up correctly - check (see #1)
Put the stock exhaust back on it if you can't even afford a new tailpipe. You're not going to have any back pressure issues, its just a hillbilly thing to do to a very nice truck.

Exactly. Sorry for my sarcasm.
To me it isn't about the sound or back pressure issue it is the carbon monoxide issue he is obviously having as he states he gets a strong smell in the cabin, which could prove deadly at the very worse extreme.
I installed a Magnaflow off-road exhaust system, which is nothing but a Maganflow muffler with a turn-down extension that dumps the exhaust eight inches in front of the rear axle. Sounds awesome, but cost around $450. Installation was easy and only took 15 minutes. Though, I have NO exhaust odor in the cab.
