Got new tires on my 2009 Ram 2500 and the low pressure light is on. Anyone know how to reset it?

 

Guessing that means whoever did your tires, broke a tire pressure sensor.

Have fun, aren't they like $170 a piece?

 

After a flat the tire sensors and computer need a short while to re-adjust. They can show 'low pressure' for some time after the wheels are back on and tires are full pressure. Drive the vehicle... it should correct itself within a few miles. If it doesn't after a restart and a few miles then take it back and tell them they caused a problem with the pressure sensors.

May also check for equal tire pressure.Mine are sensitive!1 psi difference in either tire will trigger the light on....Just something to check...

 

Try disconnecting neg battery cable and turn key to start for 10 seconds. Used to be called a "death flash" - mebbe still called that.

Anyway it resets the computer and it corrected the TPMS issue for me.

You will have to reset any custom settings since most all of them are re-set to default values.

 

The term "Death FLASH" that I remember referred to a SPARK KNOCK issue. Chrysler came out with a computer update (a flash) that retarded timing. Killed performance and hurt fuel mpg. This was on trucks back in 1997 tihrough 2002 or so. It was done to 1000s of trucks. Unhooking the battery for 30 seconds is not a FLASH. It just allows parameters to be 0 out. So they have to reset on start up and driving. Like turning your computer OFF it then has to reload the progams on startup.On the tiire sensor,you can also let air out,put air back in and see if it resets. Dealer has a tool to reset them also. Maybe some higher end tire stores may have.

 

First make sure your pressures are correct especially if you have the light load setting swich. I assume it doesnt show individual tire pressures in your dash?

 

I do have the light load setting switch but not the pressures on the dash. I will check the pressures listed on the door. I would assume thats what the sensors are set at.

 

I'd imagine they didnt put enough air in. Everytime I've gone in, they never have.

 

When ever I have gotten the light, as soon as I put air in the low tire, it goes off after restarting. I think the low pressure threshold is 28psi.
