There is usually 1 oil ring surrounded by 2 control rings and then another 2 compression rings above that. Looking at the FSM that is also the way that the hemi is set up.

Switch over to valvoline and see if the problem still happens will oil consumption.
(might take a few oil changes to get that mobil1 poison out of it...lol)
If it does still use oil, you`ve definatly got somethin going on thats not right...!
Take a look into the throttle body and see if thers alot of oil misting into it.
You may want to crawl under your truck and see if you might be leaking anywhere too.
When all else fails, do a compression test and see if all 8 cylinders read the same compression.
How bad is it smokin on first cold starts out the tail pipes (???)

never any smoke, never had any stains on the driveway or street where I park. Never noticed any drips or wet spots while under changing the oil or doing any other work.

but I will definitely be trying out valvoline, as adding oil in between oil changes that are already frequent as hell, is ridiculous. Not to mention the oil pressure remains below 50 psi.

Give valvoline a try bro, at this point, what have ya got to loose.
It may take a couple oil changes to see the improvment hopefully.
I`m thinkin right off the bat, you should at least see some better oil pressure than 50psi.

its down to 48, haha

I will definitely be swapping. I'm starting to wonder if the oil dissappearing has anything to do with my mpgs being at an all time low. I use to get in the low teens combo city/hwy. Now I am at 9, and the most I get on the highway is 14. Who knows, we will see and I will write up

It's been about 18 years since I built an engine, when I was talking about the two oil rings, what I was remembering were the two "rails" with the expander in between.

There you go, and its a good explaination of why you burn oil when your compression is bad.

The Royal Purple noticeably quieted my "Hemi Tick" almost right away. I've since experimented with a few different full synthetics and found that like RP, the tick is noticeably quieter with Valvoline (and it's about $3 a quart cheaper than RP), went back to Mobil 1 once just to see if the tick would be louder again and it was.
Not saying Valvoline or RP is any better than Mobil 1, but there is a difference in the oil that makes the tick quieter with some and louder with others...
I am gonna and grab some Valvoline with a KN filter for free, 22.99 after 7buck rebate,I bought some last time but they only were giving the FRAM Tough Guard or Extra Guard I forget, I have to buy 2 of these to do my ram but I have filter left and 3 quarts of oil, my Avenger takes same oil and filter so all will work out.
What does anyone say to mixing synthetic oil brands, like if I had 4 quarts of Valvoline Synthetic and put a quart of Castrol Synthetic same grade 5w20? Any issues?
I have some methodology for some of you to where you oil goes, I put a catch can on from Diablo Sports (made by Billet Technologies) approx 3 weeks less than 1000 kms here is a pic of how much oil it caught already. More power now with Synthetic oil and also the catch can, clean air now, I am the guy out front all the time in the Nascar race...clean air!

At first when i read what you were getting for MPG, i thought, HOLY CRAP, and then it hit me, you have a 2500 and not a 1500 truck. The 2500 trucks dont have MDS, and MPG is not that great with the 2500. BUT the oil consumption with a 2500 should be NO different than a 1500, it shouldnt be using that much oil. I`ve never seen a complaint with a 2500 on here thats using as much oil as yours is. I hope when you switch to valvoline that it helps your oil situation. If it dosent after a couple oil changes, then you definatly got somethin goin on there brother. Are you using the factory oil filters...??? If not, you should be. Just my opinion on that anyway.

I wouldnt mix castrol in it, just my opinion. Just do valvoline straight up.
Most oil companies say you can mix any synthetics together, i disagree, but thats just me, and i`m not the oil expert.

You can mix any of the oils if you want. Synthetic with synthetic and even synthetic with conventional, they are all compatible. The synthetics are based on PAO and the different companies formulate their own formulas. In many cases, the oils are the same and "re-branded". I know there are many strong opinions based and this subject and expect lots of rebuttals, but I have yet to see any proof that you can't blend them.
