yea ive done it a few times. they just have to be strapped down.

BUT

I dont think a bike will fit in the tiny *** beds they put on most of the new rams. thats another reason I went 2500, for a crew cab with a real bed. not a crew cab with a tiny like 4.5 ft bed.

A bike will fit unless you've got a chopper, you do need to leave the tailgate down. I've hauled our 2 up sleds a few times when I didn't want to drag the trailer back from the lake place. 5.5ft bed, all the weight is in the bed but the track does hang out a bit

You have probably chosen but I would have taken the 1500 since your towing weight is minimal, it's not a Dakota or anything it's a full size pick up. I way overloaded my bed with bags of cement a while back and although she was squatting a bit I actually forgot I had a load as far as power and handling these babies have enough torque

So here are the dimensions on one of the bikes going in the bed: 89.4" x 36.8" x 58.5" with a wheelbase of 58.7" ... since it has a 18" rim, I have to add 9" to the front plus say 3 inches for tire depth maybe its more like 70 inches. I believe the crew cab has only a 5'7" bed, meaning 67 inches ? so my rear tire will be sitting on the tailgate. I assume the tailgates can take 850-900 lbs of weight on it ? Is there any problems towing with the tailgate down and a 20 foot trailer behind it ?

850-900lbs of weight on the tailgate? No way - it'll fold in half or rip the cables out the first time you hit a bump.

There is no problem towing with the tailgate down as long as the trailer isn't going to interfere with the tailgate or cargo. However if you are thinking that you have 900lbs behind the axle in the bed and you are adding a trailer then you are going to be severly tail heavy.

hmm... so to even the weight I'd have to put oen of the smaller bikes in there and use a plywood board in the bed to even out the weight I guess...

Id go for the used one, saves you some cash and you dont have to wory about depreciation as much. All options should be reliable

bro, whats the make and model of the bike, dimensions and weight is just numbers, I ride, just tell me straight up! ha

I put a yamaha warrior in my bed with the tailgate down. keep in mind, thats the full 6 foot bed. the crew cab 1500 has the short bed, a cruiser would never fit, I doubt a sportbike would.

however, the tailgate down, how close is the trailer to the tailgate when driving? that all depends on your trailer

Sport bike will fit in the shorter bed just fine... they have way shorter wheelbases than a cruiser.
