Default Knock Some Sense In Me

We recently bought the wife a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was eyeballing the new 2011 Dodge Charger Mopar Edition.. To each their own, but I loved the car. I have always been a truck person, but if I was going to have a car, it would be a charger.

Stupid me started kicking around the crazy idea of trading for it. I love my 2010 Dodge Ram Crew Cab Sport and I just put a 4" lift and tires on it in May. I have also put a painted ARE tonneau cover, painted fender flares, bedrug, CAI, Sony DVD player and upgraded the speakers and amp with the KICKER's since I bought it. The only thing I am unhappy about is the 12-13 mpg that I get, but I was expecting that with the lift, tires and 3.92 rear end.

I never thought I could get close to $2000 trade difference with my truck but I think a dealership may be willing to do it for the charger. In gas alone, I would come out ahead over the next three years. And I worry about the power train warranty if something where to go wrong because of my lift.

I had been lurking in some of the charger forums and of course you know what they say. I just don't think I will ever have another truck like this one if I where to get rid of it. Sometimes I am like a dog chasing a shiny new toy when it comes to cars and trucks. My vehicle is not a daily driver and I can use the wife's Jeep when it snows. I am open to any feedback on your opinion if you wish to give it or call me an idiot

Get the charger if it makes you happier in the end.

Sounds like you don't actually need a truck if you are considering a charger, might as well go for it.

Which one serves the better purpose for you, that will justify your decision in the end.

Do you want it because its new and different? Or do you want it because it is a better fit then the truck? I love the charger and the reason i can not go for one is I have enough of a lead foot with my truck lord help me if i had the charger i would pay for a few new police cars for LVMPD.

Be honest with yourself, is this a pattern? if it is, and you get the charger, what are you going to do in 2-3 years when the Ram get updated with 8 speed tranny and who knows what (a small v8 diesel)? If you keep chasing that shiny new toy and are a truck guy, keep the truck, pay it off and then start looking for a new toy then. That way, you have your truck for the few occasions you need your truck fix, and your other go-fast car for when you feel like it. I'm about done paying off my '09 2WD CC (less than $1000) and also have a vette besides my wife's G35. I have to have a truck as I have mountain property (cabin in 14 acres of woods). I also have been thinking I should have gotten the 4WD and have an urge to go trade my truck in for one but I also know that in the next several years new trucks are coming out, so I'm waiting. To be honest, the times I needed 4WD, I just chained up and that was fine. Sorry about the rambling!

I appreciate the honest input. Yes it is a pattern with me and one that I am aware of. Big boy decisions but that is why I asked for your guys input. What I don't want to do is get the charger and decide I want or need a truck in the next couple of years.

I've got one of each, granted my Charger is almost seven years old, but is in flawless condition, and built the way I wanted it. Tough call, but good luck with which either way you go.

to be honest with you, I think you posting this thread answered your question. your asking someone to talk you out of it...

unless its a really bad idea...

what I did before buying my truck

take a piece of paper fold it in half, pros on one side, negatives on the other. look it over a few times over a few days. its kind of cheesey, but it helps
