How to know if the autodimming exterior mirrors are working?

after extensive testing last night, I determined they DO work...

I guess the "method" is very different from the GM ones, which actually tint themselves dark, as opposed to that green halo action that still leaves lights pretty bright.

I think I just had the switch "off" for some reason when I was driving the other day because I thought you had to turn them "on", when in fact you just need to turn them "off" if you don't want them!

I personally like that "green" tint much more. To me it seems to help out with LED lighting and HIDs much more. That dark tint seems to cut out the halogens much better, but fact is whats going to be brighter? The HIDs, and to me the green cuts that, AND the glare from some of them much better.

And yes, they are AUTO dimming mirrors. So they will be always working unless you turn it off. Another thing for your information is if you look in your overhead console, there is a little camera looking thing? That is the sensor that the mirrors use to determine the headlight brightness behind you. If that is blocked somehow, by bags or whatever in the back those mirrors will not work properly.

I have the Big Horn with tow mirrors and I have the Auto dim with them.

In the Big Horn, Long Horn and Laramie if you get the tow mirrors option they come with the Dim feature. I ordered a 2011 Sport model with tow mirrors and was disappointed that the Dim feature on these was not available.

What I’m wondering now is that if I bought the tow mirrors with the Dim feature for the Laramie from the parts department if they would work if I installed them. The Sport model comes standard with Dimming side mirrors

I think it can be a toss up. The nice thing about the chrysler ones is that you can still see the cars around them, and see other things in your mirror at night. with the GM ones, it blackens so far you literally can ONLY see the headlights and you can't even make out a silhouette or a road around them. That can make it dangerous at night as you can't see everything you want to.

The trade off is the dodge ones are a LOT brighter, but I really do think the more they work the better they are getting. The first night they were so so, but now they don't seem to shine quite as bright. I wonder if thats actually true or a figment of my imagination.

Your not alone. I too thought they were not working when I first took delivery. Now it's readily apparent.

Sounds like the GM versions are too dark. An acquaintance of mine complains about being blind backing up at night because the mirrors are so dark.
