Default to everyone with a cold air intake!

I have had my airaid intake on the truck for exactly a year. After my mpgs being the lowest ever, and feeling like the CAI didnt do anything, I decided to take the filter off, clean it and reoil it. Just a heads up, I ordered a kit online and only received the cleaning bottle, so i went to my local auto store and they had the full K&N restore kit for $12. So save yourself the hassle and just buy it at the store! however the point I am getting at is:

took the filter to the sink, and

1) tapped the filter to get loose dirt off, and there was crap all over the sink

2) sprayed cleaner and allowed to soak in for 10-15 minutes and then sprayed the thing down, and it was like cleaning my work boots off in the sink

so I re-oiled it and let it sit for 20 minutes, then reinstalled the filter on the cold air intake.

I literally just remote started the truck from my front door, and let me say

just it cold starting, roared like a whole new motor. I havent even gotten in, but just the sound level alone, you can tell the engine is now breathing like the first day I put the intake on.

So to anyone with an intake, try giving it a clean for 12 bucks!

I'll post some more info after I drive it around for a while

Hey bud, I had the K&N on my truck and I noticed it did absolutely NOTHING after the install except drop my MPG's by 1.5 and the roar it has. But I ended up taking mine off and selling it and my MPG's are back up, I typically cleaned mine every 3 months or so.

Oiled filters are the worst thing you can run if you use your truck in a dusty environment. Do yourself a favor if you insist on running it, get yourself a filter bag to put around the cone. They act as a pre filter and keep the cones from clogging as fast. Also helps keep out some of that extra dirt that K&N lets into your engine.

Something like this:

Oldjeep is correct... I put a filter wrap on mine if I was heading out down the backroads or anything or went out to play in the mud, and it doesn't restrict to much airflow..

I bought a pre-filter for mine not long after buying it. Up at the farm the ratio of dirt roads to paved ones is about 4 to 1 and that dusty red clay dirt is just a PIA. Slickest stuff this side of ice when it rains and pure dust that gets over everything and stains it red when it's dry.

Recommended cleaning/re-oiling interval is 25k miles. I do the cone filter and the drop-in I have in my Jeep every 15k...

Have the Airaid as well. Never saw the MPG increase was about the same city/hwy. Seemed to balance the power with the Cat-back exhaust, power was somewhat noticeable when dropping the pedal to the floor, or it tricked my mind into thinking so by all the sound of air being gobbled up.

Will probably ebay mine and stick with the K&N drop-in panel filter.

if your talking about selling your airaid...just put it in the classifieds section on this forum and someone will ****** it up real quick! I put my K&N on there and someone e-mailed me the next day or two.

Save some $$$ and just get an AirHog if you want an oiled filter. Cheaper and better built than the K&N stuff. Personally I don't see the appeal, the paper stuff filters better than a K&N and they are cheap.

Strange. I put the K&N on and gained 1.5 mpg.. I'm really happy with it! I've used K&N products on everthing from Dirtbikes/4 wheelers to cars and now my truck and they perform and filter as good or better than anything on the market imo.
