Tow Rating
Looking at a purchasing a new 4x4 crew cab 2012 dodge ram express with the 5.7 liter.
The tow rating for the ram express is 2000lbs less than on other trims of the Ram.
I would like to have the 10,000 lb rating and I was confused as to why the Express tow rating is so much lower.
Does anyone know why?

the 5.7 4x4 crew express (and ST) is rated for 8,500 with the 3.55 rear end, 10,000 with the 3.92 - if you're comparing trucks on the lot, that's likely why.
You can usually use the tow rating and GCWR chart to back track to figure out what rear end a truck has when you're looking at it when it's not on the window sticker.
Note that from a legal & DOT standpoint, you can't just swap out the rear end and get the higher GCWR - they enforce (when they enforce...) what's on the mfr sticker, fwiw.
