5.7 Hemi engine pukes Part 3
The word from Chrysler is they will engine flush, change oil, replace cam, #2 cylinder lifter, valve, rocker, pushrod, and all valve springs on both heads. They said there wasn't enough damage to warrant replacing the engine and if it blows later they will replace it then. If it blows and I'm left stranded in the middle of knowhere is of no concern to them. Thanks Chrysler.

The real stupidity is to pay the dealer to do all this work then later pay theM to replace the engine on top of that. And what happens if the engine blows, causes an accident and people get injured or worse then how much is it going to cost them.
I think you probabally watch too much TV if you are concerned that an engine "blowing" is going to cause an accident or injure people. It would suck and be inconvienient but when an engine goes, it is usually about as dramatic as running out of gas.
Unless your towing a trailer on I80 in rush our traffic south of Chicago or anywhere in the nutter driver zone NE coridor.
I would paint my truck up via shoe polish "cash for Chrys clunkers" or whatever suits you, buy me 6 month of a half page in the classified section of my local news paper perferably the same page as Chrys showing details and pics along with all copies of Chryslers letters of correspondence and park this thing as close to the dealership as possible until they bought not just a new engine but the entire truck back. Would any of you want to buy a peice of crap like this knowing how it was repaired. I would tell Chrys costumer care of those intensions and give them one day/24 hrs to respond.!
I too would be asking for a new engine if it was my truck but, in all honesty, the repair sounds about right. Flushing the engine should get all the metal remaining in the block and a new cam with rebuilt heads should take care of it. But I would make sure that they gave me a lifetime warranty on the engine, which sounds like they are willing to entertain by the sounds of "they'll replace it later if it blows". I by no means am not sympathetic to you, I'd be screaming but at some point, you'll have to accept the truck back and live with it. If this is going to be a sore point every time you look at the truck, then get rid of it after the repair - it's not worth it.
If you're not satisfied with what Chrysler has offered, I would tell them that you are drafting a letter and sending copies of it to every major consumer magazine, automotive publication, consumer advocate with your local newspaper(s), etc. Years ago I had a transmission fail prematurely in a GM product. Warranty was 60,000 km and I was at 72,000 km. I had the car towed to the nearest dealership and they said it would not be covered under warranty, nor would they offer any concession. I had the car towed to an independent transmission repair shop who rebuilt the transmission at a cost of $2100.00. I sent a letter to GM Canada, and said it was not normal for a transmission to fail at 72,000 km (about 45,000 miles) and said that if they didn't compensate me I was going to send a letter to Consumer Reports, Car & Driver, Road & Track, BBB, my local newspaper etc. I received a phone call the next day offering to pay 50% of the cost of the repair. They said that if the repair had been made at the dealer they may have been able to do something further, but since I had gone to an independent shop they would only pay half. I accepted. The squeaky wheel sometimes does get the greast...
The correct way to repair this truck is to do a complete teardown and inspection of all bearings journals and rings...a simple flush isn't going to do it. Whether the owner is satisfied or not some poor sap is going to wind up with this pos (repair job) down the road. Facebook the pics and correspondence...bet you get a new engine soon after. PS...I don't mean to diss the truck, just the work to the engine...sry if it sounds that way.
