Oh man, I'm **** poor so now I'm offended lol.

While I would be a little pissed they didnt replace the engine its warrantied for 100K miles. I have replaced many a camshaft, lifters, valve job etc on engines and they lived a long happy life.

My only concern is when someone else does the work is if everything was done correctly and they didnt use my car/truck for on the job training. If it runs well, doesnt leak, and they ddint wreck anything in the process no reason to try to blow it up or get mad. If you dont trust it trade it in, it will still be under warranty for the new owner..

They only replaced part of the camshaft, lifter, and valve the missing bits are quite possibly still in the engine.

I have been educating myself on the Raptor the last week or so. A mix of good and bad. I know a guy here in NJ who owns a 2010 with 43k miles on it. Its been flawless for him with the exception of a broken spring on the gas filler door. I checked his brakes because my 2004 F150 brake rotors were cheap crap that disintegrated at 30k. With 43k on his both the original pads and rotors looked better than on my Ram with 28k. He has 43k on the stock tires and they look like they could go another 15k.

The bad...
  • Underside of doors and rocker panels didn't get painted, bare primer. Multiple reports on builds as recent as 2/2012. Ford is covering this but having to have a $50k truck sent immediatly to the body shop for paint is messed up.
  • Multiple reports of slip yoke and shock CLUNKS, quite annoying but no breakage. Some don't have the problems, they seem to appear within a few hundred to a few thousand miles.
  • Bent frames, man they are ugly. A combination of pushing the truck beyond its limits and poor frame design by Ford. There is a HUGE access hole in the frame to allow access to the rear axle snubber bolt. Now the snubber is there to keep the axle from smashing into the frame but it seems unwise from a design perspective to put a huge access hole (weak spot) in the frame right at this critical point where you need it strong. I'm never going to push the truck like this so I'm not too concerned about it.
  • There seems to be a fair amount of wheel hop, that should be better controlled imo, I saw some twisted off aluminum drive lines. I'm a little surprised there have been methods of controlling wheel hop since what the late 1960's.
  • Headlamps suck ***, seems to be a problem with every truck manufacture right now including my Ram. The good news is the 2013 Fords are getting new headlamps, don't know if they will be an improvement or HID's but one can hope. No fog lights and no factory option for fog lights on the Raptor = FAIL!
  • The graphics packages are both ugly and the price is insane. Nearly $2,000 for some stick on vinyl graphis? Luckily I have no interest in them.
  • I checked out my friends tailgate step, was not impressed.
The good...
  • There are a BUNCH of Raptors sitting on dealer lots and some are willing to sell under MSRP. Its quite possible I could buy one off the lot vs a custom order from the factory. What I like about this is I can check the truck for all these problems before buying and might have my pick from half a dozen or more trucks.
  • Race Red looks hot!
  • Crew cab looks great in race red, balanced with that short bed, doesn't look as good in some of the other colors.
  • Super cab overall looks the best with the short bed but I have had one of those suicide door Ford trucks and they are a pain in the ***.

It's not a term, it's a slur and I thought it was offensive. Doesn't surprise me that you think it's fine, but don't tell me to "get over it".

Okay maybe you two should take it up with a moderator, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with this thread.

When I work at the Van Plant years ago we used to build up engines on the side that were shipped to dealers, they were complete all you had to do was drop the whole thing right in, easy peasy. I would say we sent out one a week at least...on my shift anyway and that was several years ago. If I remember correctly they were the 360 or 5.9L

coolage, i would do frequent oil changes, 500 twice then 1000 mile changes in addition to what LU suggested. i would also cut the oil filters open to show dodge any metal you find. i know you are pretty soured on your truck, pissed off ect, but with the remaining warranty, drive it for awhile until you are less soured and make a business decision, not an emotional decision. don't let some shiny paint and decals, cut front fenders and suspension entice you into loosing a good amount of money. trade it down the road when you won't be so upside down. now if money is no object....
