My rear end went at 24,000k, it didn't lock up but with the parts they found floating around in there it could have easily. I too would be blaming the rear end and not the driveshaft. Sounds like the rear end locked up, making you skid and with power still heading through the tranny with your foot on the gas to a locked rear end, something has to give....

Keep us posted to see what did happen.

i agree as a mechanic somebody comes in and says they been changing differential or tranny or transfer case fluid every 10k miles im gonna get suspicious and be thinking them axles are getting submerged every weekend. most dont touch the diffs for 100,000 miles and you are doing them every 10 for no apparent reason. may be your just **** but as was said its gonna throw up a red flag.

I did not change fluids in the differential. Dealer performed the differential change. They did not warn me that changing differential fluid was a problem. As of yesterday, the dealer does not have clue why this happened. So if was changing differential fluid to early was the problem then it falls on them. They are waiting on a response chrysler. All I know is I don't feel safe in my truck anymore.

I have the 3.55 diff. I am still awaiting Ram's response on why this happened.

Changing diff fluid correct WILL NOT destroy your rear/front axle!! Even if you do it every day....

I don't think anyone said changing the fluid would cause an issue. Just that overchanging the fluid sparks some curiosity. Why so frequent? Are you trying to hide an abusive situation etc. Like if you rotated your tires every 100 miles... why?? Changed oil every 200 miles... etc. Just seems like overkill and people question why. Not that doing it is bad.

IE: My old 4x4 got dif oil changed every time I ran that bitch in 4 feet of mud and water. Almost every weekend. Why? Because it was full of water. Not because I was being **** about dif oil changes.

TI_#3VOM-

I don't call myself being **** on changing my diffs. Many people to this day do not allow their vehicles to run up to 100k miles to change their sparks plugs. I know many mechanics and freinds believe they should change their spark plugs every 25k to 30K. Are they ****? I believe we all want a return on our investment. And that return is longer vehicle life.

I frimly believe thatif a manufacturer, who put millions of dollars of R&D suggest 20,000 for a service interval, they surely know more about the design then I do. Will changing it more, or servicing more often hurt? No, but will it get you anything in return, most likley no, other then a thiner wallet. Why toss out perfectly good spark plugs just because you 'think' they should be changed? Do you have the equipement to test them like the manufacturer did? I doubt it.

I follow manufacturer recomendations, no more, no less.
