Update. Can you believe this? Ram wants all my documentation of maintenance because of the gap between mileage. The dealer's service for some reason can't find where they did a diff inspection and change. Word of caution: Dodge does not recognize warranty service as a maintenance window. But the service rep forgot that when I took my truck in to receive recall repair on the Tire Rod Ends, i had them change the oil and inspect and change the diff. I have my reciepts for proof.
They also have not been able to find the root cause. So looks to me that they are trying to pass the buck. This situation will definitely be reported NHTSB. This will be my last Chrysler Product.

I cant even get the friggin dealer to fix mine either. They want me to keep driveing it until it blows. (maybe I`LL be the one that gets killed in an accident when mine blows, then chrysler MIGHT finally step up and take care of their problem for the rest of you) Both 4th gen trucks i`ve had, same issue, junk differentials. Neither one of my 4th gen trucks went 15,000 miles before the whining & growling happened. I have to agree with you, i wont be buying another dodge product again either. Chrysler cant seem to step up and admit they have a big problem with these trucks. By taking care of them, that makes them openly admit to it, so thats why they try not to fix them and pay for it. BUTTTTT, ford chevy toyota trucks are junk as well. Lets all keep paying for more unions and just let the quality continue to go to hell.

Dont worry chrysler,
my wife is very aware of these diff failures, so if somethin happens to me due to your junk POS diff`s locking up and causing an accident, and i become injured or killed, trust me, she`ll be coming after you... thats a garantee, not a warrantee...!

After speaking with Chrysler Customer Relations and threats of legal action, my truck will be covered under warranty. I had to fax all my records of maintenance that was done on my truck.

LU229 call 800-247-9753 option 4 and explain your situation and threaten legal action. The dealer knows your situatiion so Corporate Chryler needs to know. I am still never buying another Chryler product. Will also be reporting to NHTSB tommorrow.

You'll love this one. My neighbors '11 F150 went in on Thursday for a leak in the rear differential - for the second time. They found a stress crack in the differential itself and are replacing it.
The neighbor is on permanent disability and NEVER hauls/tows/off-roads or does anything more than use his truck as a car. He asked the service manager how this could have happened and the service manager replies:
"When you are forced to sell a product at a certain price point to compete with crap from other companies you just have to cut corners where you can" Now this guy paid $43,000 for the truck that had a sticker price of $48,600 on the window and his own service manager is making it sound like for almost $50,000 you just have to expect corners to be cut and inferior products be intentionally used.

WTF is our country coming to???

In my business (industrial coatings), I deal with Tier One suppliers to the automotive industry and the quality demands - at least for coatings - are very high. And audited. But the manufacturers are always looking to their suppliers for annual cost reductions...never mind any chance of an increase to cover higher costs.

Still, IMHO the quality and overall value of North American vehicles is improving. We tend to forget some of the junk that was turned out in the 70's and 80's...the stuff that got people switching to imports.

My BMW 740 had a sticker price almost 4 times what I paid for my '09 Ram (used). In some ways the BMW is a beautifully engineered vehicle with lots of technology (self-levelling Xenon headlights, self-levelling hydraulic suspension, phenomenal stability control system, etc.) but I've had far more problems with it than any other vehicle I've ever owned...except for my 1979 Volkswagon Rabbit. And trust me, those problems are never cheap to fix.

What still needs improvement is the North American manufacturers and dealers response to the inevitable problems that occur. Admit the problem, fix it...and keep your customer happy. Business 101 but they still don't get it.

I agree with ya' Bully, but my point was when you bring a vehicle with a close to $50k sticker that you spent almost $45k on to the dealer with a major problem you don't want to hear the service manager tell you that it failed because the manufacturer cut corners to save money. If'n it was me he said that to, the mechanics would be digging through their toolboxes for crow bars to pry my hands off of the service managers neck. LOL...

And this is one reason I do not keep my paperwork in my truck. If something like this happes and it gets towed, you have a great chance of that paperwork of service done, gets suddenly into a disappearing act.

That is a FACT...!!!!
I worked for a couple dealerships that DID exactly THAT...! Any vehicle towed in, we were told to go thru the glove box`s and pull any past service paperwork that had been done so that they could deny warranty coverage. (its the written words that count, if you dont have the proof, you loose) Dealerships do NOT profit from doing warranty work, so it was to their benefit to do **** like this. This happened to have been one of the main reasons i dont work for dealerships anymore, nore do i trust them. When you`ve worked in dealerships for over 30yrs like i have, and have seen many dishonest actions on their part, me as a customer now on the other end can never be fooled by them or EVER trust them ever again. Not all dealerships practice this, but then again, their ignorance more than makes up for it.

I do ALL my own service work on all my own vehicles because i dont trust any dealership, so ther are no service records except for when i buy all my oil an filters, gear lubes. As for calling chrysler, thanks for the advice, but i`m not wasting my time with chrysler. I`m just about ready to get rid of the chrysler vehicles i have, like you, i will never buy another one again. I dont know what i will buy next, but i DO know what i wont buy next. All i can say is, i wish you all the LUCK with the NHTSB. Its likely they wont do anything about chryslers differential issues and that they are a death warrant waiting to be cashed in on some unfortunate person(s).

and there in lies the problem, lu, where doyou go from here, you just told us about ford cutting corners, toyota quality seems to be mia, gmc must be cutting corners to compete, you won't use dodge again, nissan trucks are no better. seems with all the increases in quality we have all seen since the seventies and eighties, we have have lost a few things. solid chasis and frames, now "boxed", i don't recall rear ends being so fragile and the list goes on. so Lu, where do you/ i / we go from here?
